Cold weather can change how prosthetics fit. ❄️
Dropping temperatures often make your limb smaller and loosen the fit. Dry air may irritate your skin. Phantom pain can flare up.
Get prepared with these Top Five Tips for Winter Safety:👇
📐Watch for fit changes, check any pressure points or discomfort, and add additional sock-ply if necessary.
🧴Moisturize regularly with a prosthetic-safe moisturizer at night.
🌙Manage phantom pain by wearing a shrinker or sock over limb when not wearing prosthesis to maintain warmth, especially at night.
👢Wear boots with extra grip and walk slowly on icy areas - penguin shuffle! There are retractable ice grips for your cane, crutches or walker.
🛡Protect your device, wipe it down after going outside, and store it in a dry, warm place. Avoid exposing any computerized joints to snow, ice, or moisture for extended periods.
Your prosthetic is more than a device; it’s part of your lifestyle. With a little extra care this season, you can stay comfortable, confident, and ready to move.🙌
