Falling backward when standing or moving isn’t random, it could be because of your weight not shifting forward before moving. These 4 exercises re-train how your body moves, you can improve balance, reduce fall risk, and move with more confidence in daily activities.

You can do these exercises at home but ask your physical therapist or doctor before you do them regularly. If you have difficulties in balancing, you should do it under supervision.

Posterior pelvic tilt occurs when your pelvis rotates backward excessively, causing discomfort and alignment issues. It's typically due to muscular imbalances between your core and leg muscles, often manifesting as a slouched posture, tight hamstrings, and back pain.

Symptoms of posterior pelvic tilt include:
- Flat back and tucked glutes
- Slouched posture
- Tight abdominal muscles or hamstrings
- Back pain, tension, or weakness
- Knee or hip pain

Follow these set of exercises to correct your posterior pelvic tilt. Consult your doctor or physical therapist before making this part of your exercise routine.

Research shows that the #1 reason people get hurt deadlifting is spinal flexion under load which is basically, your back rounding while the weight is heavy. The deadlift is one of the most effective compound movements for building strength but form is everything.

❌ Common mistakes you want to avoid:
- Rounding the lower back: increases injury risk to the intervertebral discs
- Bar drifting away from the body: puts excess stress on the lower back
- Hips shooting up first: Turns the lift into a stiff-leg deadlift
- Looking up excessively: Hyperextends the cervical spine and disrupts spine alignment

✅ Things to remember for your next deadlifts:
- Maintain the natural curve of your lumbar spine
- Push the floor away, don't just pull the bar up
- Keeps the load close to your center of gravity
- Use your core when you pull
- Drive through the floor with your legs

Burd Physical Therapy is a family-owned physical therapy clinic with a mission to provide compassionate and personalized care to individuals in the greater Rochester area. Chelsea Burdick, the owner and operator, is a Rochester native from Greece, NY. She attended Nazareth College and graduated with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and a Bachelor's degree in Health Science in 2014. Chelsea was a member of the Nazareth Women's Soccer team. Her athletic background is what sparked her interest in physical therapy.

Clinically, she shows a special interest in neurological rehab including Parkinson's disease, stroke and balance impairments, as well as orthopedic conditions and sports injuries. She is an avid sports lover (Go Bills!) and enjoys playing soccer and running for exercise. Chelsea and her family live in Irondequoit with their two beloved dogs. In her spare time, Chelsea enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially her son Re*****on and her husband Adam.

Adam & Chelsea Burdick are also the proud owners of Burd Home Health which is based out of Rochester, NY. Burd Home Health believes the best care will come from someone you know and trust. We help families throughout the U.S. take control of their care and hire a family member, friend or anyone they choose as a paid caregiver. This program is funded through Medicaid.
