I sit here today to reflect on what it really means to be a “boss”. Which by the way, I hate that title.
But rather to reflect on what the role is to lead. Because as leaders we don’t really know what’s in us to continue to pour into others day after day. But….
The rewards are bigger than the sacrifice. To me, a leader is about balancing confidence with humility. I couldn’t survive the mission without a strong team that shares in the same mission. I get to be part of fulfilling a role to assist with growth and self preservation, to influence and to teach. To cheer and to take on the role of tough decisions and absorb pressures to ensure a team can thrive. I have learned that I too am constantly growing through new experience, seeing and listening to different angles and evolving with experience.
I have learned empathy and patience at a whole different level.
A leader is to bring talents together, to unify and to identify strengths and weaknesses and assist with growth.
I truly get the best job of all, to listen, empower and guide and my team toward a shared vision. To all the leaders, cheers to you! It’s not an easy “for everyone” title but to me it’s what keeps me going and what I was set out to do.
