Dawn "The Juggler" Barr has somehow over the course of the last 18 months avoided any new nicknames - staying just under the nicknaming radar as it were.

She is however tasked with many responsibilities at Rochester West. She has the unenviable job as Nursing Scheduler, the multifaceted job of Health Unit Coordinator, and she also manages appointments and transportation for all our residents. And while everyone at Rochester West has learned to be multi-taskers, Dawn seems to do it with particular ease.

Transitions.

A few months ago, one of our long-time residents was finally able to move back home to Austin.

Michael came to us in 2022 and the road back to Austin was a long one.

Upon arriving, during the tail end of Covid, he was unable to walk, was a full assist with all his activities of daily living, and did not communicate with staff. Over many months he slowly began to regain his physical abilities and along with that his memory and communication skills returned.

Michael eventually returned to full independence, became a resident volunteer - helping to run our resident store - helped residents in many ways on a daily basis.

Since his move, he has been settling into his new assisted living apartment and has been reconnecting with friends and family, has found new friends and is really looking forward to fishing, and the opportunity to return to visit his friends at Rochester West.
