I’ve had a visitor this morning that’s hanging out in the yew next to our window. The photo isn’t great but you can see my big beautiful coffee companion this morning.
Their message is of pulling back and looking at the bigger picture. Don’t get mucked up and stuck into the minute details, raise your view and get a different perspective. It’s similar to the video message on Monday that I shared. And it made me feel like an acknowledgement that I did just that yesterday.
Yet this one held an even more potent message. As I first heard my friend Blue Jay sound the alarm that Hawk had come to hunt, I noticed that a few sparrows and chickadees stayed in this same yew until Hawk got up further into the upper branches, sort of caged in, and then the smaller birds flew off to other safety. You don’t need to run at the first sign of warning. Stay put, observe, make your plan, then you’ll move at the best time for you. Trust yourself to protect yourself.
And then something unexpected happened. A Squirrel friend purposefully ran into this Yew after hearing Jay’s alarm, seeing Hawk, and watching the smaller birds disperse. Not only going to the threat, but fairly close. Squirrel has size advantage and strategically went where Hawk couldn’t easily get at them from above. You don’t always have to move away from fear. Move towards it. Be aware of its own weaknesses. Know how mighty your strengths are in comparison. And stand strong in the face of what only thinks it can tear you down. You have safety when you move wisely and with steady purpose.
I love Hawk and I’m always excited for a visit and I know they need to eat too. Yet I worry about our smaller friends as we lost one a few days ago to a Falcon.
This is life as we are living in.
Remember to move through it purposefully aware of all your many strengths and immense beauty.
