After a fat transfer (like BBL or breast fat grafting), surgeons use the phrase “feed the fat” meaning,
👉🏾Keep your body well-nourished and stable so the transferred fat cells can survive. Eating HEALTHY, BALANCED, WHOLEFOOD and don’t try to loose weight!
What’s actually happening biologically
When fat is transferred, those fat cells:
•Lose their original blood supply
•Have to survive on oxygen diffusion at first
•Then must build a new blood supply (revascularization)
If they successfully reconnect, they live permanently. If not, the body absorbs them.
So does eating more fat help?
Not directly.
Eating more fats like avocado, olive oil, nuts, etc.:
•❌ Does not specifically “feed” the transferred fat cells
•❌ Does not selectively make the grafted area grow
Fat cells grow when you gain overall body fat — not because you ate fat in particular.
What does help fat survival?
✔️ Eat enough calories (don’t diet right after surgery)
✔️ Adequate protein (for tissue healing and blood vessel growth)
✔️ Healthy fats in moderation (for overall healing, not enlargement)
✔️ Stay hydrated
✔️ Avoid smoking / ni****ne (this is HUGE for blood supply)
What can hurt fat survival?
•Aggressive dieting
•Rapid weight loss
•Nicotine use
•Excessive pressure on the grafted area
•Severe inflammation
The truth about size
If you:
•Maintain your weight → most surviving fat stays
•Lose weight → transferred fat shrinks
•Gain weight → transferred fat can enlarge (just like the rest of your body)
