An iridology assessment can reveal genetic predispositions concerning our inherited ability to handle stress. Our inherent structure potential is also clearly demonstrated in the iris.
The bottom line is however, what do you do to deal with your stress? What do you do to support your bodyโ€™s requirements?
This is what is important.

Every system adapts differently to lifeโ€™s demands.

Some hold strong.

Some compensate.

Some carry load over time.

The iris can reveal both โ€”
where resilience lives,
and where support could restore balance.

Because both matter.

HUMMINGBIRDS: Get those hummingbird feeders out! The Ruby-Throated Hummingbird migration is running ahead of schedule by 1-2 weeks! I would have them cleaned and full of nectar by the end of the month. Sightings have been confirmed near Louisville and they will continue to move north!

A pro tip for you - use homemade nectar! Hummingbirds can be harmed by red-colored nectar. Instead, make your own at home! One recipe that is very common is to bring four cups of water to a boil and mix in one cup of sugar. Then, boil for 2-3 minutes and allow it to cool. Do you have a nectar recipe you like to use?

Did you know that the small intestine in adults measures about 20 feet in length, but its surface area is roughly the size of a tennis court? This incredible feature is due to the villi lining its walls, allowing for efficient nutrient absorption. A fascinating reminder of the complexity of our digestive health!

The fireflies your kids chase in June have been underground in your yard for nearly two years. Right now. As larvae. In the soil.

The flash you see in summer is the last two weeks of a life that started underground. An adult firefly lives about two weeks above ground. The rest of its life โ€” close to two years โ€” happens in the top few inches of your soil, in the dark, as a larva you've never seen.

A female firefly lays eggs in moist soil in midsummer. The eggs hatch into larvae that look nothing like the beetle they'll become โ€” flat, dark, segmented, with tiny glowing spots on their abdomen. They glow underground. You've never noticed because they never come to the surface.

For nearly two years the larvae hunt. They eat slugs, snails, and soft-bodied invertebrates in the soil. They're predators โ€” underground predators that have been patrolling your garden since the summer before last.

This spring, the larvae that hatched two summers ago are pupating. Right now. In the top few inches of soil. They'll emerge as adults in June, fly for two weeks, flash, mate, lay eggs, and die.

The timing creates a collision. Spring lawn treatments โ€” the granular and liquid insecticides applied in March and April to target grubs โ€” pe*****te the same soil layer where firefly larvae are pupating. The treatment reaches its intended target but it also reaches every soft-bodied invertebrate in that zone.

The neighborhoods that gradually lost their fireflies over the years didn't lose them only because of light pollution. Many lost them because the soil was treated every spring long enough that fewer and fewer larvae survived to emerge each summer.

๐ŸŒฟ How to keep the fireflies you have:

- If you had fireflies last summer, you have larvae in your soil right now. Skipping the spring lawn treatment this year protects the generation that's weeks from emerging

- The grubs that lawn treatments target are the same prey firefly larvae have been eating for two years underground. The larvae are already doing grub control โ€” they just do it slowly and invisibly

- Moist soil with leaf litter and ground cover is firefly habitat. A lawn mowed short and raked clean with no leaf litter at the edges has fewer places for females to lay eggs in summer

- Reduce outdoor lighting where possible during June and July โ€” light pollution interferes with the flash patterns fireflies use to find mates. A dark yard produces more successful mating than a lit one

- Leave a section of lawn unmowed and unsprayed along a fence line or garden edge. That strip of undisturbed soil is where the next generation of larvae develops

- The two-year cycle means every decision you make this spring affects the fireflies two summers from now. This year's larvae are already committed โ€” protect them and they emerge in weeks. Next year's depend on what you do to the soil this season

Your yard already has firefly larvae working underground. The simplest way to see them flash in June is to leave the soil alone this spring ๐ŸŒฟ
