Last night's "Cause & Connect" event was hosted on our behalf to bring together new friends of Rochester Hearing & Speech Center. We were grateful for the wonderful group who gave us their time and spent an evening learning more about our nonprofit mission and all that RHSC has to offer.
We'd like to thank our board members- Joe Talbot for sponsoring this event, and Melissa Siesto and Dr. Michael Mendoza for sharing their experiences with our organization. Thank you also to the Genesee Valley Club for their warm hospitality on such a cold evening!

Here is a great interview that WXXI had with RHSC's Director of Audiology, Dr. Tela Katz and Dr. Austen Beaird to discuss "low-gain hearing aids". These are hearing aids that are programmed differently and are used to treat people with Auditory Processing Disorder who otherwise do not have hearing loss, but still struggle to understand the details of what is being communicated to them in conversation.
Read the full article at the link below. If you'd like to discuss your own or a loved one's hearing concerns with our audiologists, please give us a call to make an appointment at 585-271-0680.
People with normal hearing who have trouble following conversations may have an underdiagnosed disorder.

REMINDER! Why should you add a hearing screening to your yearly health checkups?
⏰ Early Detection- catching hearing loss early allows for prompt treatment and can prevent further damage and impact on speech, learning, or work.
🧠 Cognitive Health- We get asked all the time if the link between hearing loss and dementia is true, and the answer is YES! Untreated hearing loss forces the brain to work harder, increasing the risk of cognitive decline, fatigue, and potentially dementia.
🤝Mental & Social Well-being: Difficulty hearing can lead to social withdrawal, isolation, anxiety, and depression; treating hearing loss improves connection and confidence.
🦺 Balance & Safety: The inner ear controls balance, so hearing issues can signal balance problems which can increase the risk of falls especially for older adults.
☎️ It's never too early to have your hearing tested, and we evaluate and treat individuals of all ages (we're looking at you, kiddos with headphones!) Give us a call today at 585-271-0680 to schedule your appointment.
