We’re excited to share that Compeer is featured in the new documentary “Travels With George: A Journey Through Depression, Connection, and Friendship”!

This short film highlights the story of Dan Lukasik and George Tillmon, a Compeer match that started as mentorship but grew into a lasting friendship. Dan and George’s relationship beautifully reflects the heart of Compeer’s mission.

The documentary aired on PBS this month and it's now available online at compeer.org. Please watch, share and be inspired!

Last night, we were among several local groups invited to City Hall by the City Council, Rochester, New York to stand alongside the City of Rochester, NY and mark January as National Mentoring Month.

“Mentoring is one of the most practical, human ways to support mental health.” These words from our executive director, Sara Passamonte, have never been truer.

In the cold months of winter, and during a time when things may seem unpredictable or uncertain, it is a comfort to know that our city recognizes the positive impact mentoring can have on a community.

About last night, Sara also said: “When someone has a steady person in their corner, it reduces isolation and helps them to keep moving forward. Compeer sees it every day: connection changes outcomes. We’re proud to work side-by-side with the City to recognize National Mentoring Month and keep building a Rochester where people feel supported, not alone.”

Ryan T. has spent time with his friend David for over 10 years. What started as a Compeer match grew into something simple and powerful: real friendship.

“He enriches my life at least as much as I enrich his.”

January is National Mentoring Month 💛. If you’ve ever thought about volunteering as a mentor, but worried you wouldn’t have enough time, or didn’t know what it would look like —this is it. Showing up. Sharing life. Being human together.

✨ Ready to build a friendship that matters? It only takes 4 hours a month.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we honor a legacy rooted in connection, compassion, and the belief that we are stronger together.

At Compeer, we carry those values forward in simple but meaningful ways — through friendship, presence, and showing up for one another. Because connection has always been, and will always be, a powerful force for change.
