Cervical cancer was once one of the most common causes of cancer death for American women. However, the death rate dropped significantly with increased Pap test screening, which can find changes before cancer develops or detect cancer early when it is easier to treat. Now, the HPV test is also used for screening, as almost all cervical cancers are caused by HPV (human papillomavirus)
