Happy Snow Day pt. 2! Counseling Services is operating virtually until 11am today, please read below for more details:

Winthrop University has closed the campus and shifted to remote learning for Monday, February 2, 2026, and remote work for staff until 11am. As such, all in-person activities scheduled for Monday are cancelled, this includes Counseling Services. If you feel you could benefit from speaking with a counselor about mental or emotional concerns before 11am, please call 803-323-2206 and leave a Voice Message with your telephone number. A counselor will give you a call back as soon as possible. Their call may appear as blocked or unknown, so please be sure to answer when it comes through. After 11am, in accordance with the University policies, Counseling Services will close and transition to after-hours university operations.

In the event of a mental health emergency, please utilize your Crisis Safety Plan (if you have one) or seek additional crisis resources, such as going to your nearest Emergency Department/Urgent Care, calling the SCBHDD Office of Mental Health Mobile Crisis Team, statewide, toll-free, 24/7 at 1-833-364-2274 (or one of the crisis lines listed below), contacting Campus Police ext. 3333 (if you are on Campus), or dialing 911.

On Friday, April 17, Counseling Services will host our annual Out of Darkness Campus Walk in partnership with the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention to promote su***de prevention and mental health awareness. To make this happen, we need volunteers! We will be holding interest meetings at the listed dates and times, come learn more about the walk and what volunteering looks like. It is only necessary to attend one of the meetings.

If you aren't interested in volunteering for the event, but would like to attend, you can register to participate in the walk. You can create and join Winthrop teams through the AFSP link in our link tree!

You can sign up for an initial consultation through the student health portal, or, if you’re already established, email your counselor directly to schedule your next appointment. Don’t wait until things feel overwhelming, starting counseling early can help you stay supported and on track this semester.
