Let’s talk tongue ties.

Many parents don’t realize that a tongue tie isn’t just about the small piece of tissue under the tongue, but it’s actually about an entire system.

The body is connected by an elaborate connective tissue system called fascia, and the tongue is actually connected all the way down to the toes!

When baby has a tongue tie, their entire body compensates. Tensions builds in the jaw, neck, cranial system, and surrounding structures. Coordinating feeding becomes a major challenge for them. If a release is done before these tension patterns are addressed, feeding challenges can persist.

This is where chiropractic is essential. Structure matters, but function matters more. Families who include chiropractic care before and after a tongue tie release support more comfortable, efficient feeding and overall function.

If your little one is struggling with feeding or has a known tongue tie, it may be helpful to look at how their whole body is functioning. Supporting baby’s ability to move, feed, and coordinate comfortably is just as important as addressing the structure itself.

We all know spring can bring immune challenges, especially once the pollen starts, well, pollening…

Here’s a few key, simple ways to support your immune system as we spring into spring!

☀️ sunlight- triggers vitamin D synthesis and regulates circadian rhythms, both are critical to immune function

🩻 chiropractic care- regulates the nervous system which runs the entire immune response and supports a healthy stress response during changing seasons

💧 hydration- maintains mucous membranes and supports lymphatic function

💪🏻 movement- reduces chronic inflammation and increases circulation of immune cells

For women who’ve had a previous C-section, the next pregnancy comes with an important decision: attempt a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) or schedule another surgical birth.

A 2026 peer-reviewed case series followed four women with prior cesareans who received chiropractic care during pregnancy using the Webster Technique. All four went on to have successful VBACs, and no adverse events were reported. One birth even occurred at home after a short labor.

It’s important to note that this was a small observational case series, so it doesn’t prove chiropractic care leads to successful VBACs. VBAC success rates are already around 60–80% for appropriately selected candidates, but the study highlights something many providers observe clinically: when the pelvis, spine, and surrounding tissues are functioning well, the body is better supported during pregnancy and birth.

Prenatal chiropractic care focuses on supporting:
• pelvic and spinal mobility
• reducing back and pelvic discomfort
• nervous system regulation
• balanced movement and space for baby

For families hoping for a VBAC, chiropractic care is one piece of a supportive birth team alongside midwives, doulas, and OBs.

Every pregnancy and birth is unique, but helping the body adapt well during pregnancy is always worthwhile.

When should my baby get checked by a chiropractor?

As soon as possible.

Pediatric chiropractic care is very different from adult chiropractic. There’s no popping, twisting, or pulling. The pressure used is about the same as checking the ripeness of a tomato.

Your baby’s first year of life is the most neurologically active period they will ever experience. Their brain is forming over 1 million neural connections every second 🤯 During this time, they are learning how to exist outside the womb where every sensation and experience is brand new.

Now add in the fact that birth is physically demanding for babies, even the “easy” deliveries. However your baby made their way earthside, their body experienced significant pressure and force along the way. Those forces can create tension and imbalance in the body and nervous system.

This can show up as:
• Colic
• Difficulty latching or feeding
• Head turn preference
• Reflux
• Sleep struggles
• Delays in rolling, sitting, or crawling

Pediatric chiropractors are specifically trained to gently release tension and support healthy nervous system function so babies can grow, develop, and adapt the way they were designed to.

The earlier you support your baby’s nervous system, the stronger their foundation for lifelong health.

We’re a few days past Valentine’s Day, but your nervous system still deserves a love note ❤️📝

Your nervous system has gotten you through it all. The good days, bad days, and everything in between, and we’re all guilty of not showing it the love and support it deserves.

Here’s a quick list of ways to help regulate your nervous system. To check #1 off the list, schedule an appointment at the link in bio or book a discovery call ☎️

If you’re exhausted at the end of the day but can’t fully shut off at night, you’re not alone.

As a new mom, I feel this deeply. Even when you’re asleep, part of your brain is still listening for baby. Postpartum naturally shifts the nervous system toward protection and vigilance. Stress hormones run higher, muscles hold more tension, and sleep becomes lighter. Even with “enough hours,” you wake up feeling like you never really rested.

And it’s not just moms.

Maybe it’s your kids who struggle at night as they process busy days and big emotions. Maybe it’s a partner carrying the weight of long days well after they’re done. Broken, light sleep can affect the whole family.

You may not be able to sleep as deeply in this season, but you can sleep better.

Chiropractic care helps reduce physical tension and supports a regulated brain-body connection, allowing your nervous system to access more restorative sleep when rest is possible.

We can’t eliminate stress or fast-forward through seasons of life, but we can support you and your family through them.

Well, we’re just about two weeks into 2026!
How’s everyone doing with those resolutions???

Not all goals are created equal. Every year I try to overhaul my entire life starting January 1st, and somehow, I always seem to revert back to “normal life” right about this same time.

Here’s what I’m bringing into 2026. No “new year, new me.” Just simple goals that fit real life and make me feel better:

1️⃣Prioritizing sleep- everything feels easier when you’re well-rested.

2️⃣ Movement that feels good- walking, stretching, dancing in the kitchen, playing with my kid and family. It all counts.

3️⃣ Learning how to manage stress- this can be a hard one, but stepping back when needed, saying no, and asking for help.

4️⃣ Eating nourishing food- no extreme diets or aiming for perfection, just a focus on real food that makes me feel good.

5️⃣ Chiropractic care- this is what makes the rest feel manageable. I’m more calm, more steady, and more clear-minded when I’m getting adjusted.

This year the goal isn’t to re-invent my life. I don’t need to change everything or go extreme. 2026 is about simple, repeatable habits that really add up.

It’s that time of year when it feels like everyone is sick 🤧

Our house is currently supporting a little one through an earache and congestion, so I wanted to share what we’re doing.

Many earaches are a classic watch and wait situation. Not every ear infection needs antibiotics, but that doesn’t make it any easier to watch your kiddo struggle, especially through sleepless nights.

Here are a few gentle ways to support little bodies while they heal:

✨ Chiropractic care – The ears connect to the throat through the Eustachian tube. When that tube isn’t functioning well, fluid can build up. Gentle adjustments support proper drainage, nervous system function, and lymphatic flow.

✨ Garlic mullein oil – Garlic offers antimicrobial support, while mullein is soothing and anti-inflammatory.

✨ Red light therapy – Supports cellular healing, reduces inflammation, and many kids find it calming and relaxing.

✨ Warm compresses – Increase blood flow, ease pressure, relax surrounding muscles, and help relieve pain.

🟢 Watch & wait is usually okay when:
• Ear pain is mild
• No fever or only a low-grade fever
• Your child is eating, playing, and consolable
• No ear drainage
• No changes in hearing

🔴 Call a provider if you notice:
• Severe ear pain
• Fever over 102°F or lasting longer than 48 hours
• Any fever in an infant under 3 months
• Ear drainage or foul odor
• Balance issues or hearing changes
• Pain that’s worsening or not improving

You know your child best. Trust your instincts, and don’t hesitate to reach out if something doesn’t feel right.

If your little ones struggle with ear pain, chiropractic care can help! Schedule at the link in bio today to get your kids feeling better faster!

Day 12: Feeding, Stress & the Nervous System 🤍

Feeding is about more than supply, it’s deeply influenced by the nervous system. When the body feels safe, hormones like oxytocin can flow more easily. When stress is high, even a well-established milk supply can feel disrupted.

Fatigue, pressure, and overstimulation can interfere with letdown, not because something is wrong, but because the nervous system is asking for support. Gentle regulation including rest, warmth, reassurance, and connection help the body return to balance.

Gentle reminder: your body isn’t failing. It’s responding. With simple changes your milk supply can feel more balanced.

As this series comes to a close, remember this:
Your nervous system is always working to protect you. Regulation isn’t about doing more or trying harder. It’s about creating the conditions where your body feels safe enough to soften, adapt, and heal.

Whether you’re navigating pregnancy, postpartum, parenting, or simply the weight of everyday life, support matters. You were never meant to regulate alone.

Thank you for taking this time to learn with us. We hope you enjoyed it. If you have questions for any of the providers at Refuge don’t hesitate to reach out. We would love to help you however we can 🤍

Day 11: The Fourth Trimester 🤍
The fourth trimester is a season of nervous system adjustment, for everyone.

Bodies, hormones, sleep, and emotions are all finding a new rhythm. Babies are learning life outside the womb, and parents are healing, adapting, and learning in real time. Regulation during this season happens in relationship.

Babies borrow safety through touch, voice, breathing, feeding, and gentle movement. At the same time, parents and partners are navigating sleep deprivation, physical recovery, hormonal shifts, and past experiences of their own. Feeling overwhelmed, sensitive, or unsettled during this time is not a failure, it’s a nervous system asking for support.

Midwifery care honors the fourth trimester as continued care, not a finish line. Through reassurance, education, and space to process, midwives support nervous system healing for both baby and parents helping the whole family settle, regulate, and grow together.

Today’s gentle reminder: needing support in the fourth trimester is normal. You were never meant to do this alone.

Tomorrow we wrap up with some more lactation content!

Day 10: Midwifery & Physiologic Birth 🤍

Birth is not just physical. It’s deeply neurologic.

Throughout labor, the nervous system is constantly asking, “Am I safe?” When a birthing person feels supported, respected, and at ease, the body can shift into a parasympathetic state and the hormones of birth can flow as intended.

Protective responses like tension, stronger pain, or slowed labor are not failures. They are signals that the nervous system needs more safety.

Midwifery care centers the nervous system through trust, choice, and calm, supportive environments.

Today’s gentle reminder: birth works best when the body feels supported, not rushed.

Tomorrow we’re learning about the often neglected 4th trimester. We have lots of great info for you!
