“If we are facing in the right direction, all we have to do is keep walking.”

Recovery isn’t about having it all figured out—it’s about continuing to show up, even on the hard days. Progress doesn’t have to be loud or fast to matter. Sometimes, it looks like getting out of bed. Making the call. Choosing not to give up.

If you’re moving forward, even one small step at a time, you’re doing the work. And that matters.

Keep going. We’re here with you every step of the way. 🤍 307-352-6680

👉 We want to give a special shout out to our very own Krystle Norton, a team member who does it all around here and who truly embodies what it means to show up, step up, and give back.

For over 8 years, Krystle has been an essential part of Southwest Counseling, supporting our team and the individuals we serve in countless ways. She also brings over 20 years of personal recovery from substance use—offering not just professional support, but lived experience, compassion, and hope to those walking a similar path.

Krystle is an incredible Peer Specialist who leads with authenticity, manages Fleet Maintenance to ensure clients have reliable transportation, and has stepped in as Interim Purchasing Clerk to keep our residential treatment homes stocked with food and supplies. No matter the role—wherever she’s needed, she’s there.

Now, she’s added another incredible accomplishment: becoming our CPR/First Aid/AED & Stop the Bleed Instructor!

At Southwest Counseling, every staff member is CPR certified to ensure we’re prepared for emergency situations and can provide the safest environment possible—something Krystle now leads.

We’re grateful for her dedication, her growth, and the example she sets every day.

It’s not “just people-pleasing.” Sometimes, it’s trauma.

For many people, constantly putting others first isn’t about being nice—it’s about feeling safe. It can come from experiences where saying no felt risky, where approval was tied to love, or where conflict meant something bigger than just disagreement.

So you learn to keep the peace.

You say yes when you want to say no.

You read the room before you even enter it.

That’s not a personality flaw—that’s a survival response.

The good news? It’s something you can unlearn—with the right support. Therapies like trauma-focused CBT, EMDR, somatic therapy, and DBT can help you process past experiences, build boundaries, and reconnect with your own needs.

You don’t have to keep abandoning yourself to feel accepted. 💛

Some days, something as “simple” as cleaning the house can feel completely overwhelming—and for many neurodivergent individuals, that’s not about laziness or lack of effort.

Executive dysfunction can make it hard to start tasks, stay focused, or follow through—even when you want to get things done. It can look like staring at a mess and not knowing where to begin, getting stuck in a loop of avoidance, or feeling mentally exhausted before you even start.

This is real. And it’s more common than people realize.

The good news? Support can make a difference. Therapy can help build strategies that actually work for your brain, and medication may help improve focus, motivation, and follow-through.

You don’t have to keep fighting your brain on your own—we’re here to help. 💛

“The best way out is always through.” 💭

Recovery isn’t about skipping the hard parts—it’s about walking through them, one step at a time. The uncomfortable moments, the setbacks, the days you want to give up… they’re not signs you’re failing. They’re part of the process.

You don’t have to rush it. You just have to keep going.

Through the hard conversations.
Through the cravings.
Through the healing.

And on the other side? Strength you didn’t know you had. 💪🧠

Half of all mental health conditions begin by age 14 . Early support can change everything. 💬🧠

The earlier kids and teens get help, the better their chances to build confidence, cope with challenges, and thrive into adulthood. But they can’t do it alone, and they don’t have to. ❤️

If you’ve noticed changes in your child’s mood, behavior, or stress levels, trust your instincts. Reaching out is a strong first step, not a last resort.

We’re here to help! No appointment needed during Open Access.

Healing shouldn’t come at the cost of losing your child 🤍

For 26 years, Southwest Counseling’s Women & Children’s Program has been a place where mothers can rebuild their lives—without being separated from their children 👩‍👧‍👦

We were the first—and are still the only—program of our kind in the state, creating a space where recovery and parenting can happen together 💛

And because help should be accessible:
✨ Funding is available so many mothers pay little to no out-of-pocket cost

The impact speaks for itself:
✨ 70,000+ residential bed days provided
✨ 600+ women supported in recovery
✨ Nearly 750 children cared for
✨ 130+ drug-free babies born into the program

This program doesn’t just treat addiction—it helps:
✨ Reduce relapse, domestic violence, and child maltreatment
✨ Strengthen families and keep them together
