Product Spotlight✨ Casein

Everyone knows that protein is important for gaining muscle, but why? To put it simply, your body breaks protein down into amino acids, those amino acids are then used to repair damage caused to your muscles during a workout. The recovery process is when growth actually happens. The majority of recovery occurs while you sleep. Giving your body the protein it needs to recover is very important and when it comes to nighttime, it can get a little tricky. Unless you’re fasting, sleeping is the longest period of time you will go without consuming protein. This means that your choices before you go to sleep are key in ensuring you have the nutrients needed for recovery. Casein protein could be the answer. Casein is a slow digesting form of protein which can remain in your system for up to 8 hours. This makes casein a great option for a pre-bedtime snack. The slow digesting properties of casein give you a steady supply of protein for a long period of time, supporting protein synthesis when you need it the most!

Product Spotlight✨ Electrolytes

Did you know that muscle tissue is 75 percent water, and slight dehydration can reduce strength output by up to 18 percent? Slight dehydration can also increase perceived fatigue up to 70 percent and decrease reaction time by 12 percent. With all that being said, it’s safe to say that staying properly hydrated is rather important. So, what should you do, drink a bunch of water, right? Wrong. Drinking plenty of water is important but it can also cause some balancing issues. Your kidneys are constantly working to maintain a tight electrolyte balance in your bloodstream. When you introduce all that water, electrolytes get diluted, and it can be a stressor on your body because your kidneys are working overtime to keep the proper electrolyte balance. By adding electrolytes to some of the water you drink throughout the day, you reduce the stress on your body by assisting the balancing process as well as increase the absorption of water into your cells.

Electrolytes are electrically charged minerals that are essential in body functions including muscle contraction and energy production. Being deficient or imbalanced when it comes to electrolytes can have very noticeable negative effects. Come in and check out our options for electrolytes!

Product Spotlight✨ Creatine

If you do any sort of weight training or exercise, you have probably heard of creatine a time or two, and due to massive number of misinformed opinions floating around regarding creatine, chances are you don’t know the true benefits that come with it.

Simple explanation: creatine plays a huge role in energy production, supplementing with it can help increase your body’s natural store of creatine, helping you to push out a few extra reps and lift some extra weight.

In depth explanation:
Before you can fully understand the benefits of supplementing with creatine, you must first know a little bit about your body’s energy production. When you eat, your food goes through multiple bodily functions and eventually is converted into cellular energy called ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate). ATP is the energy used to power muscle contraction. Your body can only store enough ATP for 8-10 seconds of high intensity exercise, after that new ATP must be produced to sustain the activity. This is where creatine comes in.

ATP is made up of one adenosine molecule bonded to three phosphate groups. When ATP is used for muscle contraction, it is left with only two phosphates making it ADP (Adenosine Diphosphate). Phosphocreatine (body’s stored form of creatine) then comes along and delivers a high energy phosphate to ADP, making it ATP. The newly formed ATP is then used, and the cycle continues. Creatine supplementation has been shown to elevate phosphocreatine stores in the body. This results in more readily available ATP to power you through your workouts.

A recent study showed that athletes who were given creatine gained 14% more strength than the placebo group.

We carry multiple forms of creatine in the store, come in and check them out!

Product Spotlight✨ BCAA’s (Branched Chain Amino Acids)

If you have been dieting hard and working out even harder, you may want to consider supplementing with BCAA’s.

BCAA’s consist of three essential amino acids (Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine). Essential amino acids are not made in the body and must come from your diet or supplementation. If you are restricting your diet, you might not be getting an adequate amount. Unlike most amino acids, BCAA’s are oxidized in muscle and can play an important role in energy production during exercise. This is relevant due to the fact that when you are cutting calories from your diet, your body may lack the energy needed for your workout. When this happens, your body could enter a state of catabolism, meaning your body begins breaking down muscle tissue to use for energy. BCAA’s have been shown to prevent catabolic effects of dieting and exercise while also speeding up the post-workout recovery process.

So, if you want to ensure you’re getting the most out of your workouts and losing the right type of weight, stop in and check out our options of BCAA’s!
