Fairhaven had the privilege to recognize 42 veterans and a Gold Star Mom on Tuesday, November 11th. Opening the program, Veterans entered the chapel with their branch unit as their branch anthem was played. Additionally, each veteran was individually recognized and received a small thank you gift provided by Northern Illinois Hospice. The Fairhaven choir prepared and performed two beautiful numbers with the second number creating tears from the crowd with its beautiful message. Following the recognition, many stayed to share stories and time together while enjoying refreshments in the family room. We want to once again say THANK YOU to those had served or are currently serving our nation.

Over the last two weeks votes were taken for pumpkins decorated by residents and nursing staff. Take a look at some of our staff being fun and festive on Friday. A huge hit was life enrichment staff that mirrored maintenance staff.

There’s something about Fall… we love the changing trees and feelings of harvest, but we also love the opportunity to visit our favorite orchards when they open. Independent Living residents visited Royal Oak & Skelly’s. Supportive Care took trips locally to Curran’s & Edwards. The Health Center took a trip to enjoy Edward’s apple orchard. While visiting it is a MUST to enjoy treats such as apple pie, apple cider donuts, and cider!

George Nicholson provided country music to a room full of fall fun. We ordered nine dozen donuts to serve with apple cider… and there were none left! We had somewhere around 115 in attendance. Good Music, Great Friends, and Good Food, equals a perfect recipe for a good time.

LET’S GO TO THE HOP! Recently our Health Center residents took a trip down memory lane to enjoy an afternoon in a 50’s dinner setting. With festive décor, staff in poodle skirts, root beer floats, french fries, and sock hop music… you could feel the fun.

THANK YOU to everyone who donated and participated in our annual ice cream social. Some of our residents in the health center and their families chose to enjoy their ice cream indoors. Due to the heat, Fairhaven coordinated the indoor venue by offering ice cream bowls and all the fixin’s AND music from Dan Holmes in the health center. Most residents, families, and friends weathered the heat to enjoy ice cream in the chapel courtyard while Mark & Terri Reed provided music entertainment under the pavilion. It’s always a joy to see friends and families gathered for this fundraiser. It is truly an event that highlights the strong community relationships within Fairhaven.

Our recent Fairlaner social was “Tour of Italy” themed. What’s not to like about an Italian meal and great entertainment provided by Italian musician Jack Muiccio. Enjoy some of our photo booth pictures.

This time of year we look forward to our men being able to gather around Father’s Day. This year the men’s event was themed “Up, Up, and Away” (Planes). Mike Frederiksen from Rock Valley College was here and shared information about Fred Machesney who was an aviator. Fred Machesney is who Machesney Park is named after, but he also founded and operated an independent airport in 1927 which is now the Machesney Park Mall.

Batter’s Up! Residents were competing to knock off their cups before their opponent. Good luck trying to control the pendulum swinging ball which had a mind of its own 😊. Residents had a blast and already asked to do it again.

Residents invited a Special Person to an afternoon of conversation, food, and fun. Residents and their special person were able to take a picture at our photo booth, decorate frames, and take them home! The chapel was buzzing with conversation and activity.

We are happy to announce that Jenice Storm, MHA, BSN, RN has accepted the position of Director of Nursing here at Fairhaven. Jenice served Fairhaven for two years as Assistant Director. Her love, care, concern, and commitment of our mission statement “to provide a comfortable lifestyle and exceptional care which enhances quality of life in a manner that glorifies God” for Fairhaven is apparent in her every day.
