Valentine’s day was celebrated in various ways at Fairhaven. First, a few of our residents sold candy and flowers so staff and residents could spread love to each other, as well as family and friends. Additionally, 21 couples enjoyed a special Valentine’s lunch experience. Last, a carnation donated by Roscoe Chiropratic Centre was delivered to each resident.

Fairhaven celebrated a special lady for a very special birthday. Garnie turned 100 on Saturday, January 31st. Fairhaven staff and residents enjoyed celebrating on Friday in the dining room to present her with 100 roses, serve birthday cake, and share facts from 1926. Garnie enjoyed giving her roses away to those gathered in the dining room.

Hoping you had a blessed Christmas!
Fairhaven paused to remember and celebrate the true reason for the season at our Christmas service. There was a multitude of special music during the program. The Fairhaven choir performed three prepared songs, with Sue Bleed soloing in one of the song choices. Deb Kniep wowed us with a solo singing “Mary Did You Know”. A small brass band, mostly consisting of Fairhaven residents, helped provide music as everyone gathered and dismissed. Pastor Steve shared beautiful thoughts to prepare our hearts around the Christmas message.
Chris (assistant administrator) and Joe (new CEO) went around to wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas. Joe was an amazing Santa while Chris passed out candy canes to residents.

People laughing, people passing, meeting smile after smile… there’s a feeling of Christmas.
There has been so much happening we can’t capture it all… caroling groups, special Christmas dinners, Christmas tree walk, family movie night showing It’s a Wonderful Life, and so much more.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…
It was wonderful to see so many residents, family members, and staff as some of the 30 vendors at the Hollyberry Bazaar on Friday, December 5th. With plenty of items to view or purchase and plenty of cookies and coffee to enjoy, what isn’t there to like about this event.

Terri Joern was recently recognized as Illinois Volunteer of the Year! Terri received this award at the annual conference for the Illinois Activity Professionals Association. Fairhaven is extremely grateful for Terri’s intentional involvement, meaningful engagement with residents, and dedicated volunteer service. We are thrilled that others were able to recognize the difference this remarkable woman makes. Congrats Terri!

Fairhaven had the privilege to recognize 42 veterans and a Gold Star Mom on Tuesday, November 11th. Opening the program, Veterans entered the chapel with their branch unit as their branch anthem was played. Additionally, each veteran was individually recognized and received a small thank you gift provided by Northern Illinois Hospice. The Fairhaven choir prepared and performed two beautiful numbers with the second number creating tears from the crowd with its beautiful message. Following the recognition, many stayed to share stories and time together while enjoying refreshments in the family room. We want to once again say THANK YOU to those had served or are currently serving our nation.

Over the last two weeks votes were taken for pumpkins decorated by residents and nursing staff. Take a look at some of our staff being fun and festive on Friday. A huge hit was life enrichment staff that mirrored maintenance staff.

There’s something about Fall… we love the changing trees and feelings of harvest, but we also love the opportunity to visit our favorite orchards when they open. Independent Living residents visited Royal Oak & Skelly’s. Supportive Care took trips locally to Curran’s & Edwards. The Health Center took a trip to enjoy Edward’s apple orchard. While visiting it is a MUST to enjoy treats such as apple pie, apple cider donuts, and cider!
