In our “did you know?” series we are giving you an inside look into our director roles and the person who serves in the position so you can see how they impact you as our patients!

Meet Sharon B., director of Surgical Services.

Sharon oversees the daily business operations, Mission Partners, finances and strategic planning of OSF Saint Anthony’s operating rooms, procedural areas, sterile processing and all other surgical departments. Sharon leads the way when it comes to fostering a patient-first environment.

“We realize patients have a choice as to where they want to receive their surgical care,” Sharon said. “My role is to ensure that from the beginning of the patient's surgical experience, we provide the most efficient, high-quality, safest patient care with the very best surgical outcomes. Patients expect that, and it's a big part of my role to facilitate that experience. Honestly, nothing less is ever acceptable, and it truly takes a village to make that happen, at all levels of care.”

Sharon came to OSF and right away vibed with the Mission.

“OSF is a faith-based organization, and we pray before every meeting! It allows us to center ourselves and remember what our purpose is here,” Sharon said. “When we pray, we ask for strength, courage and guidance as we navigate through our challenging days, solving complex issues, collaborating respectfully and breaking down those barriers that prevent us from serving our patients to the very best of our ability. This environment feeds my soul every single day, and I thrive in this culture.”

Sharon’s favorite part of her job is working with her fellow Mission Partners and living out the Mission of OSF.

“We are here solely for our patients and the Mission Partners that serve those patients and their families with the greatest care and love,” Sharon said. “Hands down the best part of my day is working with the amazing, dedicated and committed Mission Partners who put their heart and soul into caring for our community. They are my heroes and we couldn't do it without them.”

In this week’s Mission Partner Monday, meet Hannah T., professional development coordinator.

Hannah began her healthcare career as a CNA. She then earned her degree to become an RN and worked her way up to charge nurse.

“As a charge nurse, I had the privilege of leading teams, which truly sparked my passion for professional growth and education,” Hannah said. “Now, as a professional development coordinator, I’m thrilled to focus my energy on creating opportunities that empower our nurses to excel by fostering confidence, teamwork and the highest standard of patient-centered care.”

At OSF, our Mission is to serve with the greatest care and love.

“To me this means recognizing that behind every patient chart is a person with a story, fears and hopes. It also means supporting my fellow nurses so they feel valued, confident and equipped to give their very best.”

Fun facts:
1. “Before my healthcare career, I was a competitive figure skater for 9 years. This taught me discipline, resilience, and how to keep my balance no matter the challenge.”
2. “I grew up in the racing community traveling to tracks across the country with my family, which fueled my love for speed, teamwork and adventure.”

🫀 When it comes to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), tempo matters.

The American Red Cross recommends a compression rate of 100 - 120 beats per minute, about the rhythm of songs like “Stayin’ Alive.”

Knowing the right beat could make a difference in an emergency.
