We would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to the Vazquez family for donating 400 Hot Wheels cars to benefit our young burn patients.

The Vazquez family lost their son in a tragic burn accident. They have been traveling around northern Illinois donating Hot Wheels cars in honor of their late son Dedrick.

Their generosity will put smiles on the faces of our burn patients and we are extremely grateful for their kindness.

For students exploring health care careers, OSF HealthCare offers early pathways that help build skills, gain experience and grow into high-demand clinical roles – with minimal education costs.

One of these opportunities is the surgical tech pathway, ideal for high school students or recent grads interested in hands-on, team-based patient care. Surgical techs are essential members of the surgical team, preparing the operating room, maintaining a sterile field and assisting during procedures.

Students can begin in part-time or entry-level roles and progress into an accredited surgical tech program with support from OSF HealthCare’s education benefits.

In this week’s Mission Partner Monday, we spotlight Emily P., medical librarian.

“I support OSF Saint Anthony as well as Saint Anthony College of Nursing where I help clinicians find reliable, evidence-based information to support patient care, research and continuing education,” Emily said. “I also work with nursing students and faculty teaching them how to navigate research databases, evaluate sources and use new tools and technologies, including AI.”

“I love learning something new every day, especially when it comes to technology and AI tools. It’s exciting to explore how these tools can be used in healthcare and education—and then share that with students, faculty, and clinicians. I really enjoy teaching others how to use these resources in ways that make their work easier or more effective. Seeing that moment when something clicks for them is really rewarding. Plus, I get to work with a great team and support people who are doing amazing things in patient care and education.”

Fun facts:
1. “I love the outdoors: camping, hiking, swimming.”
2. “I try to read 60+ non-serious books a year in any genre.”
3. “I hate cooking but love eating, which makes me an excellent restaurant companion and snack enthusiast.”
