Richmond County has declared a state of emergency with the impending storm. Please read the following statement for complete details, but there will be a shelter opening at Richmond Senior High School at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 24, 2026, for citizens who may need a place for warmth or who become displaced due to prolonged power outages. Meals at the shelter will start at 6 pm on Saturday so please have lunch before arriving. The shelter is not pet friendly and individuals who plan to utilize the shelter are advised to bring snacks, drinks, medications, and other necessary personal supplies, as available resources at the shelter may be limited.
Richmond County, NC β Richmond County has declared a State of Emergency due to anticipated weather conditions impacting the area.
As part of this declaration, Richmond County Emergency Services will activate the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 24, 2026, to coordinate response efforts and ensure public safety.
In addition, Richmond County will open a shelter at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Richmond Senior High School for citizens who may need a place for warmth or who become displaced due to prolonged power outages. Meals at the shelter will start at 6 pm on Saturday so please have lunch before arriving. This shelter is not pet-friendly due to the lack of equipment needed to accommodate animals. Service animals are permitted and must be accompanied by official documentation verifying their status.
Citizens planning to utilize the shelter are encouraged to bring snacks, drinks, medications, and other necessary personal supplies, as available resources at the shelter may be limited.
Richmond County Emergency Services strongly encourages residents to limit travel once precipitation begins and to prepare now by obtaining essential supplies such as groceries, medications, and other needed items to allow for sheltering in place whenever possible. Residents are also encouraged to have additional batteries available and to ensure all electronic devices are fully charged.
For public safety purposes, citizens are reminded not to call 9-1-1 to report power outages. Power outages should be reported directly to your power company.
