💜🧒 Fun Fact Friday — International Childhood Cancer Day
💛 Fun Fact Friday! 💛

Did you know February 15th is International Childhood Cancer Day?

✨ Fun Fact: Thanks to advances in research and treatment, more than 80% of children with cancer in high-income countries now survive — a major improvement over past decades.

While childhood cancer is rare, early detection and awareness matter. Some signs parents should never ignore include:

⚠️ Unexplained, persistent fevers
⚠️ Frequent or unusual bruising
⚠️ Ongoing bone or joint pain
⚠️ Unusual lumps or swelling
⚠️ Persistent fatigue or paleness

Most of the time, these symptoms have common and treatable causes — but if something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and have your child evaluated.

At Pediatrics in Brevard, we’re here to listen, assess, and guide your family every step of the way.

💙 Wellness Wednesday — American Heart Month
❤️ Wellness Wednesday: Little Hearts Matter! ❤️

February is American Heart Month, and while heart disease is often thought of as an adult issue, heart health habits begin in childhood!

Healthy kids grow into healthy adults — and small daily habits make a big difference:

🥦 Offer fruits and veggies at every meal
🚴 Encourage at least 60 minutes of active play daily
💧 Choose water over sugary drinks
😴 Keep consistent sleep routines

Building heart-healthy routines early helps reduce future risk of high blood pressure, obesity, and diabetes.

At Pediatrics in Brevard, we’re here to partner with you in raising strong, healthy hearts. 💕

Vaccines Save Lives

At Pediatrics in Brevard, we understand there is a lot of noise on-line about vaccination that can be confusing or frightening for honest, well-meaning parents. Vaccine skeptics are in positions to set policy and are creating fear and doubt about the safety and effectiveness of vaccines while undermining decades of progress we have made against life-threatening infectious diseases. We already live in scary times and are constantly bombarded with sensational, misleading "news". These stories have a way of sn*******ng until it is hard to know what is true, what is speculation, and what is not true at all.

As your pediatricians, we want to be your expert resource to help advise you as you make health care decisions for your children. We would never intentionally place a child at risk of serious harm. Collectively, we have hundreds of years of experience caring for tens of thousands of children. We have watched children suffer with vaccine-preventable illnesses and supported families whose child may have had a vaccine side effect. Serious vaccine side effects are incredibly rare. It is more dangerous to drive in a car or let your child play sports than to vaccinate them, and neither of those activities could save a child's life as a simple vaccine could. The known benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks. If you still have doubts, or are scared because of stories you have read on the internet, we encourage you to read this booklet and hear the voices of parents who wished they had a vaccine to protect their child.

🎉 Fun Fact Friday 🎉
Did you know organized children’s sports have been around for over a century? ⚽🏀 In the early 1900s, youth sports programs were created to promote teamwork, discipline, and physical health—values that are still just as important today!

Regular exercise helps children build strong bones and muscles, improve coordination, boost confidence, and support both physical and mental health. Best of all, staying active from a young age helps establish healthy habits that can last a lifetime. 🌟
