Wellness Wednesday 🌿 | Helping Kids Handle Holiday Stress
The holidays are full of excitement—but for kids, the change in routines, busy schedules, and big emotions can feel overwhelming. 💛

Here are a few gentle ways to support them:

✨ Stick to routines when you can – familiar bedtimes and meals help kids feel safe
✨ Name the feelings – let them know it’s okay to feel nervous, tired, or overstimulated
✨ Build in calm moments – quiet play, reading, or deep breathing can reset busy minds
✨ Lower the pressure – kids don’t need a “perfect” holiday, just connection

A calm, supported child is the greatest holiday gift of all. 🎁

❄️ Fun Fact Friday ❄️
Did you know that centuries ago, winter medicine looked very different than it does today? 🕰️

In the 1700s and 1800s, people believed cold weather caused illness by throwing the body “out of balance.” Common winter remedies included herbal teas, honey mixtures, warm broths—and even wearing flannel year-round to prevent sickness! Some families also kept windows slightly open in winter because fresh air was thought to protect against disease.

Thankfully, modern medicine has come a long way—especially when it comes to keeping kids healthy during cold and flu season. 😊

🌟 Fun Fact Friday! 🌟
Did you know? Even during Florida’s quick “cold snaps,” kids lose heat faster than adults — which means the right layers make a big difference! ❄️🧥

Here’s a fun (and helpful!) clothing tip for chilly Florida mornings:

👉 The “3-Layer Trick” works even in mild winters:
Base layer: Soft cotton or moisture-wicking top
Middle layer: Light fleece or sweatshirt
Outer layer: A windbreaker or thin jacket for those surprise gusts

Bonus fact: Layers trap warm air better than one heavy coat — plus, kids can peel them off as the day heats up (because… Florida ☀️😄).

Stay cozy, stay comfy, and keep those kiddos ready for every weather curveball!

✨ Wellness Wednesday ✨
Florida “winter” may be mild, but it can still take a toll on little lungs! Cooler mornings, dry indoor air, and seasonal viruses can all make respiratory symptoms more common for kids this time of year.

Here are a few simple ways to help keep your child’s breathing clear and comfy:

🍃 Keep the air moist — Use a cool-mist humidifier at night to ease dryness.
🧼 Fight germs — Encourage frequent handwashing and wipe down high-touch surfaces.
😴 Prioritize rest — A well-rested immune system is a stronger immune system.
🌬️ Watch for triggers — Sudden temperature changes can irritate airways; keep a light jacket handy for morning chill.
💧 Stay hydrated — Fluids help thin mucus and support overall respiratory health.

If your little one is dealing with a cough, wheeze, or repeated respiratory issues, early evaluation makes a big difference. Our pediatric team is here to support healthy breathing all season long.

🎉 Fun Fact Friday! 🎉
Did you know that the safest toys are often the simplest ones? 🧸✨

Blocks, balls, books, and art supplies not only boost creativity and problem-solving skills—they’re also some of the easiest to keep safe for little hands!

Here are a few more fun safety facts to keep gift-giving worry-free:
🔎 Toys labeled for ages 3+ have passed strict small-parts testing.
🎨 Non-toxic crayons and markers are designed to be safe even if they end up in a curious mouth.
🔊 Toys under 85 decibels protect growing ears from loud noise exposure.
🧲 Magnet-free toys are best for young children—they eliminate the risk of dangerous ingestion.

Choosing safe toys means more fun and more peace of mind! 💛

Let’s keep our little ones safe and smiling this holiday season! 🎁💛

When choosing toys and gifts for kids, remember these quick safety tips:
🧸 Age matters — Always check age recommendations to be sure the toy matches your child’s developmental stage.
🔍 Small parts = big risks — Avoid toys with tiny pieces for children under 3 to prevent choking hazards.
🎨 Choose non-toxic materials — Look for toys labeled BPA-free, lead-free, and made with safe finishes.
🔋 Battery safety — Keep button batteries and magnets securely enclosed and out of reach.
💪 Sturdy is safe — Quality construction helps prevent breakage (and potential injuries!).

A little extra attention makes playtime safer and a whole lot more fun! 💫
