Overwhelm during labor rarely comes from just one place. It can be physical, emotional, environmental, or simply the weight of too much happening at once.

Midwifery care looks at the whole picture. Is someone exhausted, hungry, overstimulated, or carrying stress from the people around them? Sometimes support means adjusting the space, sometimes it means nourishment or rest, and sometimes it means quiet reassurance and steady presence.

Over time, the thing that makes the biggest difference is simply preparation. Knowing what labor can feel like, understanding that it often requires endurance, and feeling informed ahead of time helps reduce overwhelm before it has a chance to take hold.

Feeling nervous at the start of care is way more common than most people realize. What helps that ease over time is having space to build real relationships and knowing there is room for honest conversation!

At California Birth Center, care is built around time, continuity, and access. Longer appointments allow families to connect with different midwives, ask questions as they come up, and feel more comfortable speaking openly. Support also continues between visits through secure messaging, phone, and text, so concerns don't have to wait.

There are very few questions that feel out of bounds in midwifery care. Topics like intimacy, sexuality, and personal comfort are all part of supporting the whole person through pregnancy 💙

Most births here follow a steady, thoughtful rhythm. Families arrive, get settled, and know that everything needed for safety and support is already prepared in the room. Once those essentials are in place, the focus shifts to comfort, movement, and letting labor unfold naturally.

Birth at California Birth Center is guided by the person giving birth. The team is present, attentive, and ready, while still leaving space for families to move, rest, and labor in the way that feels right for them 💙

It is completely normal to feel nervous when considering a birth outside of the hospital. It's a big decision, and one that deserves thoughtful conversation and clear information.

Out of hospital birth isn't the right fit for everyone, and part of good care is helping families understand whether it's a safe option for them. Ongoing screening, open dialogue, and preparation are woven into every visit so that safety stays at the center of the experience from start to finish.

When plans need to shift, support doesn't stop. Midwifery care follows families through those changes, helping them move toward the safest setting while staying as close as possible to the birth they hoped for.

Preparing for birth and life with a new baby does not happen all at once. It happens through learning, conversation, and feeling supported along the way.

At California Birth Center, our classes are designed to meet families at every stage. From learning how to support each other during labor, to understanding what happens when birth begins, to navigating postpartum recovery and breastfeeding, these courses are meant to help families feel informed and confident before baby arrives.

Education is one of the ways we help reduce fear and build trust throughout pregnancy and beyond.

There is no perfect way to show up to a prenatal appointment. Some people arrive with pages of notes, others come in with questions that surface as the conversation unfolds. Both are completely okay.

Prenatal care works best when there is space to talk things through as they become relevant. Whether questions come up ahead of time or in the moment, the goal is always the same: helping families feel informed, supported, and at ease throughout pregnancy.

Our Story

Established in 2018, California Birth Center was born from the concept that mothers should feel empowered and supported in their journey through natural child birth. Our center provides an all inclusive care package with services including prenatal care, a home like birthing experience and postpartum follow up care. In addition to our core services, you will find groups and classes (yoga and educational) that are designed to support new families and build community. The experience at California Birth Center is unique – a perfect combination of the comforts of home and an intimate holistic birth environment, with the security of a professionally trained staff, supported by state of the art technology. Unlike other natural birth facilities in our area, California Birth Center’s staff includes a board certified OBGYN to provide the highest level of care and accommodate even higher risk pregnancies. Our center features three birthing suites, in a bedroom like setting, with options including water birth. Let the California Birth Center help you write the story you envision for your child birth experience.
