Hearing Loss Plus Loneliness Speeds Up Memory Decline

A large European study of 33,000 older adults found that untreated hearing loss combined with loneliness significantly accelerates cognitive decline.

Researchers from the University of Geneva discovered that seniors who experienced both hearing impairment and feelings of loneliness showed faster memory deterioration over time—even if they were socially active. The key factor wasn’t just isolation, but the perception of loneliness.

Published in Communications Psychology, the findings underscore the need to address both sensory and emotional health when supporting aging brains.

📱 Screen Time, Sleep & Kids’ Mental Health - A new study of nearly 3,900 children (ages 7–9) found that excessive screen time - more than 2 hours/day - doubled the risk of sleep disturbances.

And that matters, because kids who weren’t sleeping well also showed more emotional and behavioral problems - anxiety, irritability, and inattention.

The takeaway? Too much screen time → poor sleep → struggling mood. Especially when screens are used late into the evening.

🌬️ Reset with Box Breathing
Take a moment to sit tall, relax your shoulders, and breathe. This simple exercise can calm your mind, lower stress, and even help you fall asleep faster.

Here’s how to do box breathing:
➡️ Inhale for 4 seconds
➡️ Hold for 4 seconds
➡️ Exhale for 4 seconds
➡️ Hold for 4 seconds

Repeat for 8–10 cycles — or as long as you need. You can do it anywhere: before a big meeting, during a stressful moment, or while lying in bed when your mind won’t stop racing.

One mindful breath at a time, your body returns to balance.
