Letβs Connect Language Tip π¬
Using Declarative Language
Instead of focusing on performance (βWhat color is that?β), try focusing on shared experiences.
Declarative language is when we comment, notice, and wonder alongside a child β without pressure to respond.
β¨ βI see a big red truck!β
β¨ βYouβre stacking them so high.β
β¨ βUh ohβ¦ that one fell down!β
β¨ βI wonder what will happen next.β
This approach reduces pressure, builds connection, and models rich language in a natural way.
Because language grows best in moments of connection β not correction. π
