Using Declarative Language

Instead of focusing on performance (“What color is that?”), try focusing on shared experiences.

Declarative language is when we comment, notice, and wonder alongside a child — without pressure to respond.

✨ “I see a big red truck!”
✨ “You’re stacking them so high.”
✨ “Uh oh… that one fell down!”
✨ “I wonder what will happen next.”

This approach reduces pressure, builds connection, and models rich language in a natural way.

Because language grows best in moments of connection — not correction. 💛
