Dr. Wesley Wang, PT, DPT, Sports Physical Therapy I am a physical therapist in Rockville, MD, with experience treating various orthopedic conditions, specializing in sports rehabilitation.

My name is Dr.Wesley Wang, PT, DPT. I am a physical therapist with experience treating a wide range of orthopedic conditions. My focus is on sports rehabilitation, specializing in ACL recovery. My treatment philosophies centers around strengthening, movement and patient education. I strive to empower my patients to give them the tools necessary to get back to their respective activities. I currently work at Healthy Baller, an athletic training facility which offers physical therapy, located in Rockville, MD. Our facility offers a private physical therapy office, a 50 yard turf field and extensive weight room, allowing me to challenge my athletes to ensure they are ready to return to their respective sports. We offer hour-long one on one therapy sessions which is uncommon in most PT facilities. We give you the individualized care you deserve in order to help you get back to your goals quicker. โšฝ๏ธThis athlete has agreed to let me document her ACL rehab journey and in this clip we are now 11.5 weeks post op following ACL reconstruction, LET and meniscus repair.

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ She has been progressing well and we have continued to focus on desensitization of knees over toes which is always challenging for ACL patients.

๐Ÿ’ช We started adding in banded steps for force absorption to get her knee ready for jogging. We will do this for several weeks of varying degrees of difficulty to make sure her knee can handle jogging.

๐Ÿค•Knee extensions are the ONLY way to truly isolate the quads and SHOULD be regularly be incorporated in rehab.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธThis should of course be done sensibly and progressed gradually. However, knee extensions are critical in knee rehab and I would say they are borderline mandatory.

๐Ÿ˜ฉWeight bearing restrictions are always tough to navigate. It slows down the early phase of rehab and itโ€™s more difficult to challenge the patient.

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธI think in some rehab facilities, these patients are told to take it easy and wait for the restrictions to be lifted.

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธI believe this drastically slows down rehab and a lot can still be done despite the weight bearing restriction.

๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธYouโ€™ll see Iโ€™m working with a patient who had ACL surgery and a foot surgery. She had weight bearing restrictions so we couldnโ€™t do more traditional exercises like a squat or split squat.

๐ŸคœI used tools like e-stim, BFR, the total gym and manual resistance to challenge her. We also incorporated cross education training.

โœ๏ธThe late stage of ACL rehab is all about continued strength training, working on explosiveness, neuromuscular control and sport specific exercises.

๐Ÿ‹๏ธThis phase of ACL rehab should be extremely challenging for the athlete and continually push them to get stronger, more explosive and regain confidence for their sport.

๐Ÿ™‹The labrum is a ring of cartilage that goes around the femoral acetabulum (socket of the hip). It deepens the socket to improve the stability of the hip.

๐Ÿค• The hip labrum can become torn through an injury such as a fall or collision with another person.

๐Ÿค”Additionally, some peoples anatomy makes them more susceptible to labrum tears. Depending on the location of the tear, it potentially can present as groin pain.

๐Ÿ’ชHere are some exercises we did in the to attempt to manage a labrum injury non operative. Youโ€™ll notice we are doing a variety of exercises all targeting the hip.

๐Ÿ‹๏ธThey must be pushed in the weight room and gradually exposed to sport specific movements. In my opinion, this is what a comprehensive ACL rehab program should look like.

๐Ÿ’ชYouโ€™ll notice in these clips we continue to address strength, specifically, unilateral strength in this ACL phase. This is how athletes can gain isolated strength AND see side to side differences. The higher level the athlete, the more we need to push them.
