Choosing to honor ourselves and our choices is at the heart of self-determination.

Image Description: A deep blue background with layered teal shapes and thin yellow curved lines. In the center, a white rounded rectangle reads a quote by the late Alice Wong: “I’ve tried crystals and healing drum circles and prayer and everything. What I want to try is acceptance. I want to see what happens if I can simply accept myself for who I am.” The TransCen logo appears at the top.

Founded in 2008 by Steve Wilkinson, today celebrates the achievements of wheelchair users, recognizes those who support mobility and access, and raises awareness of the ongoing need for appropriate wheelchairs worldwide.

A wheelchair is more than equipment. It’s freedom, independence, participation, and opportunity. Access to the right wheelchair can mean access to school, employment, community life, and connection.

We’re grateful to organizations who work to drive change and raise awareness like International Society of Wheelchair Professionals - ISWP and ATscale, the Global Partnership for Assistive Technology.

Image Description: A man using a wheelchair reading a book at a wooden table. Inside a blue square to the right, large white text reads "International Wheelchair Day," and "March 1" below it. The body text reads "International Wheelchair Day reminds us that access to mobility tools opens doors to education, work, and community. The TransCen logo appears at the top.
