I cannot endorse this company/organization (A Special Needs Plan) but I received this from the Learning Disabilities Association of Maryland. It appears that they will be providing valuable information. If you go to their website and click on the resources tab there are many questions they answer with videos.

As a pediatrician and as a father to a child with autism, I want to respond to the comments made last night. “The crisis of autism, the horrible horrible crisis”.

First, autism is not a ‘horrible crisis.’ My son and so many other children on the spectrum are not a crisis, they are children with unique strengths, challenges, and incredible potential.

Using language like that fuels stigma and fear, and that does real harm to families who are already navigating a lot.

You can advocate for children, want more research, Looks for environmental causes and still choose to see our children are not a crisis.

Yes, the number of autism diagnoses has increased over the years. But that rise is due to better awareness, improved screening, and broader diagnostic criteria. We are identifying children who, in past generations, would have been overlooked or misunderstood. That is progress, not catastrophe.

What families need is not fearmongering or blame. What we need is action, more support, more resources, more inclusion in schools and communities, and more investment in therapies and research that improve quality of life.

Autism is part of my son’s story, but it does not define his worth. He is joyful, capable, and loved. And every child with autism deserves to be seen in that same light.

So instead of framing autism as a crisis, let’s frame it as a call to build a more inclusive, supportive society, where every child is given the chance to thrive.

“We know from this body of research that racism is like the air we breathe,” Njoroge said, adding that children are exposed directly through their experiences with racism and indirectly through those of their parents."

The only infant psychiatrist at CHOP sees children ages zero to 5 who are already experiencing behavioral challenges, depression, anxiety, or trauma.

A Mighty Girl Pick of the Day: "What to Do When the News Scares You: A Kid's Guide to Understanding Current Events." Whether from TV news reports, the car radio, social media, or discussions by adults or their peers, children are often bombarded with information about the world around them. And even when the adults in their life try to shelter them from frightening news, kids are often exposed to far more of it than parents may realize. With many of the leading news stories focused on disturbing or scary events such as mass shootings, wars, extreme weather events, disease outbreaks, or more dispersed threats such as climate change, children can become frightened and overwhelmed.

Fortunately, parents can help kids put scary events into perspective and learn how to understand and process the messages they hear with the help of this new addition to the bestselling What-To-Do series. It will also help kids become more informed consumers of media by introducing them to media techniques such as reporters' efforts to add excitement to stories which may also make threats seem more imminent and extreme. And if kids start to worry or become anxious about things they've heard, the guide shares tips on how kids can feel calmer and more in control. Hands-on and interactive, it encourages kids to respond to what they are learning by writing down their thoughts or drawing pictures in guided activity sections. This new guide is an invaluable resource for kids growing up in a world that can often feel awash in upsetting news. Highly recommended for ages 6 to 12.
