The Autism Society of America joins national Autism and disability organizations in calling for science-based public health communication. We are disappointed by changes to the CDC’s autism and vaccine webpage that cast doubt on the well-established fact that vaccines do not cause autism.

These changes risk confusing families and diverting attention from the priorities of the autism community, including quality healthcare, services, supports, and meaningful research.

We urge the CDC to restore accurate, evidence-based language, strengthen vaccine education, and focus on initiatives that improve outcomes for autistic individuals and their families. https://bit.ly/4odNDyg

The Autism Society of America joined leading medical and advocacy organizations in expressing deep concern over recent CDC website changes that revive harmful, disproven claims linking vaccines to autism. This misinformation harms autistic individuals, undermines public trust, and shifts attention away from the urgent need for stronger supports and services. We remain committed to creating connections, empowering everyone in the Autism community with the resources needed to live fully. Read the joint statement here: https://bit.ly/4icnKO9

Thank you to Greg Scaduto, a parent of a nonspeaking Autistic child, for authoring this thoughtful op-ed on behalf of the Autism Society.

Greg underscores why public health decisions must be grounded in rigorous, evidence-based science. As misinformation continues to circulate, it’s critical that our nation’s leaders uphold scientific integrity and ensure policies protect the health and well-being of all children and families.

This month, we celebrate the contributions of Autistic employees and renew our commitment to creating inclusive workplaces where everyone can thrive.

At the Autism Society, we are working to strengthen the neurodiversity employment ecosystem, foster early opportunities like internships and mentorships, create flexible job pathways that meet diverse needs, support caregivers balancing work and care responsibilities, and expand awareness beyond our community to share successes.

Together, we can make meaningful employment for Autistic individuals the expectation, not the exception.

The Autism Society of America was honored to be invited to moderate a panel at PrevCon 2025 with Safe Kids Worldwide, The Y, Dell Children's Trauma and Injury Research Center, National Center for Fatality Review and Prevention, focused on the latest research surrounding the incidence of drowning and Autism.

During this important discussion, two recent studies were presented, highlighting how emerging evidence is shaping best practices for aquatics professionals, parents, and caregivers. These insights are helping to improve safety, enhance training, and build stronger community awareness around water safety for individuals with Autism.

We are grateful to our colleagues, researchers, and advocates who help us continue to drive this vital work forward. To learn more about the Water and Wandering program, visit our website: https://autismsociety.org/water-and-wandering/
