Why Are Immunizations Important?

Vaccines are available to activate our immune system without having us go through the illness first and without making us sick. Many dangerous and even deadly infectious diseases can easily be prevented with an effective vaccine. This is one of the main reasons why being immunized is so important.

Immunizations are available for patients to obtain immunity without the risk of getting the disease in the first place. When we are immunized, our bodies are able to activate the immune system's "memory bank," which stores crucial information about the components of the infection, so if we ever come into contact with the disease in the future, we will understand what it is and how to fight it.

What Symptoms Should I Be Aware of for Diabetes?

Diabetes symptoms depend on how high or low your blood sugar is. Some people, especially those with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes, may not have symptoms; type 1 diabetes symptoms tend to come on quickly and severely. The most common symptoms of diabetes are feeling thirsty more than usual, urinating often, feeling tired and weak, and having blurry vision.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR MEDICARE RECIPIENTS

Are you a traditional Medicare recipient? If so, we want to share some information about selecting your P*P through Voluntary alignment. To ensure that we get up-to-date information from your insurance on screening needs, cost of medications, and payment information, naming a P*P on your plan will help.

Voluntary Alignment is a process through Medicare.gov that allows you to select your primary clinician, the healthcare provider whom you believe to be responsible for coordinating your overall care. Selecting a primary clinician does not affect your benefits or limit your ability to receive care from any healthcare provider. Your selection will also have no effect on your Medicare Part A or Part B billing and payment policies. However, it will provide the clinician you select with additional information to allow for better coordination of your overall care.

To select your primary care provider in the CMS system, you can follow the instructions below:

How to select your Primary Clinician:

1. Go to Medicare.gov and log in to your account by entering your username and password.
2. At the top of the home page, select Providers & Services and then click the Find Care Providers button.

3. Select Doctors & Clinicians.
4. Search for your primary clinician by filling out the following fields:
• Location: Type in their ZIP code, street, city, or state.
• Keywords (optional): You can type in your primary clinician’s name, practice name, or specialty.

Click Search.

5. Options for primary clinicians based on the search fields you entered will display. Locate your primary clinician and click their name. Then click the Save to Favorites button.

6. A new box will pop up to request additional information. At the top of the pop-up box, click the checkbox next to Make this my primary health care provider in my favorites. If the provider has multiple office locations, please select the location that you visit. Click Save to Favorites.

7. You will then see a pop-up box indicating your provider has been added to your favorites list. You can confirm by clicking View My Favorite Providers. Your favorites should now be updated with your primary clinician.

If you need help choosing your primary clinician on Medicare.gov, please call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227). TTY users should call 1-877-486-2048. If you do not have internet access, we encourage you to work with family or friends, or check with your local State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) office, library, place of worship, or community center for help.

Sincerely,

Your Providers at Rocky Mount Family Medical Center
