TOMORROW: Please join UNC Health Nash at 10:00 a.m. at the flagpole in front of the Nash Emergency Department as we kick off April as National Donate Life Month. We will be partnering with HonorBridge in a Donate Life flag-raising ceremony and moment of silence to honor donors, their families, recipients, and those waiting to raise awareness of the tremendous need for more registered organ, eye, and tissue donors. We will raise the flag at 10:08 and then observe a moment of silence to recognize the over 3,000 patients waiting for a life-saving transplant in North Carolina. The time of 10:08 a.m. represents that one organ donor can save up to eight lives.

If you or a loved one has been a donor or has received the gift of a donation, we would love to have you in attendance to be able to share your story. Please contact Georgia Aquino at Georgia.Aquino@unchealth.unc.edu if interested in being a part of the event.

Moments like the UNC Health Nash Foundation’s 2026 Fundraising Soirée are a powerful reminder that care extends far beyond the walls of our hospital.

What took place that evening was more than a gala—it was a reflection of what’s possible when a community comes together in support of something bigger than itself. Through the generosity of attendees, sponsors, and supporters, vital programs that strengthen patient care, remove barriers, and provide comfort outside the clinical setting will continue to grow.

At UNC Health Nash, we see every day how these investments make a difference—not just in outcomes, but in the lives and experiences of the patients and families we serve. We are deeply grateful to the Foundation and to this community for helping us carry that work forward.

In the Operating Room, moments of anxiety can be eased by something as simple—and powerful—as a compassionate presence. 🌼

Myah Johnson, RN, is known for bringing that kind of steady, reassuring care to every patient she meets. One recent patient shared how, after learning surgery was needed, they were met with immediate comfort when Myah walked in—someone they already trusted from a previous experience caring for their child.

Even at the end of a long shift during the holiday week, Myah made it clear that her patient was her only priority. Through her warm demeanor, attentiveness, and genuine compassion, she created a sense of calm when it was needed most.

It’s this kind of unwavering commitment—to both patients and their families—that defines the spirit of the DAISY Award.

Congratulations, Myah, RN, and thank you for the exceptional care you provide every day. 💙

When a patient leaves the hospital, the road to recovery is just beginning. 🚑💙

For some, the biggest challenges don’t come from their condition—but from what happens next. Transportation, medications, follow-up care, even safe living conditions can all impact whether healing continues or takes a step back.

Through the UNC Health Nash Foundation Community Paramedic Program, we’re helping bridge that gap.

Our paramedics meet patients where they are—at home, in their routines, and in the realities of everyday life. They help manage medications, connect patients to resources, and provide hands-on support that keeps recovery on track and prevents unnecessary hospital visits.

Ongoing support helps expand this program, allowing us to reach more patients, sooner, with the care and guidance they need beyond our walls. If you’d like to be part of that impact, you can give through the Foundation and help bring care directly into the community.

Some nurses bring knowledge to the bedside. Others bring comfort. Chad brings both—steadily and without hesitation. 🌼

During a lengthy hospital stay marked by complex symptoms and uncontrolled pain, one family found reassurance in the care of Chadwick Chabail, RN, CPSU. From the start, Chad demonstrated the clinical confidence needed to manage a challenging situation—while also offering the compassion that helps patients and families feel supported.

Throughout the stay, Chad remained proactive and attentive. He anticipated needs before they became problems, monitoring pain, mobility, and safety. No task felt too small—assisting with ambulation, gathering supplies, or adjusting equipment for comfort. He took time to review lab results, answered questions with patience, and contacted the care team whenever something needed attention.

What stood out most was the consistency of his presence. Chad checked in often, reassured the family that the team would stay on top of the pain crisis, and approached every interaction with professionalism and genuine concern.

Chad truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award.

💐 Congratulations to Chadwick Chabail, RN, CPSU—thank you for the difference you make every day.

❤️ What should you do if you think you’re having a heart attack?
Call 911 — and don’t drive yourself.

On a recent episode of Here’s to Your Good Health on WHIG-TV, Velvie Zabel, Director of Cardiovascular Services, and Tera Joyner, Chest Pain Program Coordinator at the UNC Health Nash Heart Center, joined host Linda Prezioso, NP for an important conversation about heart health in our region.

In this informative discussion, they share insight on:
☑️ The signs of heart attack — including symptoms that often appear differently in women
☑️ Why calling 911 immediately can save precious heart muscle and lives
☑️ How hands-only CPR can help someone survive cardiac arrest
☑️ The advanced cardiac procedures now available locally at UNC Health Nash
☑️ Everyday steps that can help protect your heart, including movement, nutrition, and managing blood pressure and cholesterol

Heart disease remains one of the leading health concerns in our region, but early recognition, quick action, and preventive care can make a life-saving difference.

If you want to better understand the signs, risks, and resources available close to home, this episode offers clear, practical guidance.
