Today I used a Pete the Cat Valentine book to target the short a sound and final t sound. I used the sound cards for visuals, and the kids decorated Valentine cards for their parents with motivating stickers. Inside, they drew a “cat” wearing a “hat” and took off each marker “cap,” getting lots of trials of these target words and sounds. This was a fun & easy therapy session that helps with carryover when they tell their parents what they drew inside! We had so much fun with this new toy during our speech sessions yesterday. My 2 year old & 7 year old clients both loved it. It can be used to target colors & shapes, requesting things like more, help & key, concepts like in, on, up, next to, stop, go & turn, labeling animals & animal sounds, predicting what will be inside each barn, turn taking, counting & describing each animal! So many opportunities to target skills and the kids feel like they’re just playing with a choo choo train 🚂 The animals can also be used as finger puppets for pretend play too! I attached the link for any SLP, teacher, or parent who wants to try it out. I highly recommend! Therapy should be fun!
