Meet the Owner:
Dr. Megan Schaecher-Pecek earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in 2015. She has 20 years of experience working in the mental health field in different roles.
Dr. Megan has worked with a variety of developmental stages from age 3 to 100+. Clinical settings include community mental health, home-based services, school-based therapy, inpatient hospitalization, outpatient mental health, assisted living facilities, telehealth, and Veterans Affairs serving our nation's heroes. She has provided training and supervision and has served on several professional committees and interdisciplinary teams for clinical care coordination.
Dr. Megan's experience working with children and adolescents includes providing individual and family therapy and school-based interventions to enhance children's well-being. She administered diagnostic testing to evaluate cognitive, executive, behavioral, and emotional functioning. She communicated testing results to family and school staff and advocated for the child in making treatment recommendations for providers, the child, and caregivers, including parenting interventions, skills, and school recommendations. She attended IEP meetings and advocated for accommodation planning to enable children’s successes.
There has been a rise in inquiries among adults who never received a diagnosis of neurodivergence or had a lack of understanding and treatment given generational differences. With the aid of increased scientific evidence in support of neurodivergence, Dr. Megan has been providing psychoeducation and interventions to adults with neurodivergence to improve daily functioning.
Dr. Megan specializes in working with children, adolescents, and adults with neurodivergence and comorbid symptoms. She has extensive training in the treatment of complex trauma, depression, anxiety, high risk behaviors (including su***de, self-harm, and substance use), impulse control difficulties, emotion dysregulation, and interpersonal ineffectiveness. She is trained to assist individuals and families in understanding biological and environmental contributors to the development of problem behaviors and their intersection with executive functioning.
Dr. Megan is trained in evidence-based practice of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy for Depression.
Personally, she has children, family members, and friends with neurodiversity and understands the struggles of advocacy and intervention in many settings.
Her clinical experience and expertise are dedicated to changing the way neurodivergence is perceived and working within the self and systems to reduce stigma and improve our compassion with effective treatment.
