WHAT IS THE VALUE OF HAVING AN EFFECTIVE FIRST-AID PROGRAM IN PLACE?
Saving lives: Accidents in the workplace are unpredictable. However, with well-trained staff or utilizing the services of companies that provides On-Site mobile injury care directly at your worksiteβ¦you can significantly reduce both the severity of workplace injuries, as well as the cost of maintaining an in-house safety program.
Increased productivity: Productivity in the workplace is important to both employers and employees. A solid first-aid program will allow for faster recovery times, allowing workers to get back to their usual activities quicker.
Better reputation: OSHA recommends a first-aid program for all companies, but a good percentage do not follow through. This can lead to more injuries being recorded on your OSHA 300 log. Therefore, establishing a strong first-aid program can build your brand and image as a safe environment to work in.
Increased confidence: Employees who have been properly trained or who have benefited from the first-aid program in the past, will feel more confident and relaxed in the workplace. The knowledge and experience they have acquired make them able to handle most situations when they arise.
Making things easier for the medical staff: After calling for an ambulance, it can take some time for help to arrive at the worksite. However, this time could be crucial to the life of an employee. In many cases, it takes less than a minute to save a life and make it easier for EMS when they arrive. CPR is an example that saves many lives and can be taught in a group setting directly at your worksite.
Teamwork building: In addition to feeling confident in the workplace, employees will build a sense of camaraderie with one another. First-aid training requires employees to be in close contact and work in teamsβ¦to rely on one another to learn the skills necessary to keep each other safe in the event of an emergency.
Risks vs. rewards: Every employer should have a first-aid program. It teaches employees to be safe inside and outside of the workspace, increasing confidence and productivity. If anything, the cost of a first-aid training course is minimal compared to that of surgical operations, permanent damage, cost of insurance, ruined reputation, and the loss of an employee.
