For years, having a disability meant being labeled or underestimated for the rest of your life.

Serving NWA since 1958, Sunshine School & Development Center is shattering limitations to enable people touched by disability, serving their unique journey through advocacy, therapy, and education. In every space, individuals would be categorized, written off, or separated. Thankfully, Sunshine School & Development Center was founded with a commitment to seeing potential, not problems. Since 1958, Sunshine School has served thousands of people in the community by offering a range of services in order to benefit every child and client that we serve. Our mission is to shatter limitations to enable people touched by disability, serving their unique journey through advocacy, therapy, and education. Because of our work, families are better advocates, students aren't limited by their labels, and adults with disabilities thrive in their communities.

SUNSHINE FAMILIES & VISITORS: The forecast is calling for a potential snow storm here in NW Arkansas this weekend. ❄️ We understand our families rely on us for their children's developmental and therapy needs, so we will continue closely monitoring weather conditions while prioritizing the safety of our students and staff.

As of now, the snow is expected to arrive Friday night, continuing to Saturday, and we have no plans for early dismissal at this time. This could change if the weather moves in sooner. A decision regarding Monday's services will be made by 6am on Monday morning.

Stay warm, drive safely, and enjoy a snow day treat once the flakes start falling! ❄️☕️

We are hiring bus drivers - No CDL required! 🚍🚐

Our bus drivers transport Sunshine students to and from school during the week. They follow a pre-planned route and assume responsibility for the safety of children during loading and unloading.

Thank you so much to UNT quarterback Drew Mestemaker, OU offensive lineman Febechi Nwaiwu, and UT defensive back Michael Taaffe for taking the time out your busy schedules to read to our students today before your award ceremony 🌈📚 Congratulations on your achievements and good luck tonight!

The Burlsworth Trophy is awarded to the most outstanding college football player in America who began his career as a walk-on 🏆🏈 These three players are 2025 finalists out of 79 players nominated by universities from across the nation!

OUR HISTORY

The Sunshine School & Development Center has been serving NWA for 60 years. The inaugural class was held in the basement of the First United Methodist Church in Rogers and consisted of two children, one with Down’s syndrome and the other with a severe brain injury resulting in developmental delays. In 1958 the public education system didn’t have a place for children with special needs. The families of these two children – the Clardy’s and the Briley’s – needed a place for their own children to learn, so they started Sunshine School. Mrs. Clardy and Mrs. Briley were the teachers. By the end of the first month six more children had joined.

Now, 60 years later, Sunshine School & Development Center serves families and individuals of all ages with unique needs by providing therapy, education, and support.
