Ps my practice is now called Bay Area Modern Therapy, I’m having issues changing the name on the page.

All the reasons people wait to get help with their OCD:

“I thought I was crazy…like something was really wrong with me and I was scared to tell anybody or else they’d think I was crazy too.”

“I thought OCD was just about wanting every clean and that’s NOT me at all. I didn’t know it could manifest with such scary/dark thoughts!”

“I saw a therapist once (who didn’t specialize in OCD) and they told me I should stop watching things/thinking about things that triggered my fears. As if it was a choice.”

At Bay Area Modern Therapy we can help you to learn to live well with OCD…don’t let other people’s lack of knowledge or shame hold you back from getting the help you need to learn to live well with OCD, Anxiety…or any other mental health struggle!

I found this to be so relatable! While living with ADHD is certainly not a walk in the park, finding humor in the unique ways that our brains work is often times a helpful coping mechanism in that it makes us feel less alone and more connected.
I don’t often talk about my own ADHD diagnosis, and how it came about, but like so many women, I wasn’t diagnosed until later in life/after having kids. I now understand that women are often diagnosed while having young kids because it’s a time where our executive functioning is really put to the test -the planning, the organizing, not to mention the roller coaster of emotions that comes with raising small humans is overwhelming for everyone, but especially those of us with ADHD.

While ADHD is some thing that I’ve always understood/treated in my clinical practice over the years, it wasn’t until I learned the tools to cope better with my own ADHD that I became really passionate about helping other high achieving women and couples learn to live well with the condition (I like that word better than disorder).

So if you’re feeling like you’re in a place where you want to explore what life could look like with a better understanding of how your brain works and how to cope better with the noisiness and overwhelm of living with ADHD reach out to our team!
PS schedule is filling up fast, so if you’re ready to do some work this summer reach out soon via our website or email her directly (link in bio).

It’s with great pleasure that I introduce you to Kylie Hempy, AMFT and first team member of Bay Area Modern Mental Health.
After having been in solo practice for 7 years, I decided to make the leap (and it is quite the logistical and leap) towards starting a group practice.
Having said that, it was (and always will be it) so important that I bring on therapists who are dedicating to learning, highly skilled in the clinical realm and, maybe most importantly relatable and real. Because, from my experience, we while we want a therapist who know their “stuff” we don’t actually want a blank slate/robotic version of a human handling our hardest things.
Kylie specializes in perinatal mental health (she’s in process of getting her Perinatal Mental Health Certification from PSI) and has already worked with countless mothers navigating pregnancy, loss, and Postpartum Mood Disorders.
A few words from
“So many moms feel guilty for taking time, money, and energy for themselves, and even for feeling sad in what they expected to be a happy season. But if you're struggling, something needs to change in order for you to feel better. I've been on both sides of the perinatal therapy "couch", and I can tell you that reaching out is a great first step.”
Beyond her work with mothers, Kylie also works with modern couples who are navigating the transition to (and through) parenthood and the many changes that come with it.
You can head to our website (link in bio) to find out more about working with Kylie.

What I’m all about...

I am a mental health therapist (LMFT) who works with children, teens, and adults who are struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression, and issues related to trauma. I am passionate about empowering people to make change, and having real and honest conversations about mental wellness. I believe that therapy shouldn’t be a mystery, and it isn’t just for those who are “broken.” Research shows that CBT is the most effective form of therapy when it comes to treating anxiety and depression. While research is important and powerful, I BELIEVE in CBT because I have witnessed how powerful and courageous humans can be when they learn to speak to themselves in ways that are honest, balanced, and helpful. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, or navigating a life transition you have the power to change. It takes work, it take courage, it takes willingness to risk, and it takes some grit. I am so moved by people’s resilience and strength, and when people learn to own the “stuff” that is keeping them stuck, they become empowered and THAT is when they can start to live the meaningful lives they were always meant to live.

I am a mom of three amazing children, a wife, a daughter, and a sister. I feel honored to do this work, and hope to make a difference in people’s lives.
