Walking into the office to this surprise from my team reminded me how special this journey is.

She restored sight to people who had been blind for decades.

Dr. Patricia Bath invented the Laserphaco Probe — a device that revolutionized cataract surgery and restored vision for countless patients worldwide.
She was also the first Black female physician to receive a medical patent.
Her work reminds us that innovation can quite literally change how people see the world.

Dr. Daniel Hale Williams performed one of the world’s first successful open-heart surgeries — without modern imaging, antibiotics, or advanced surgical tools.
He also founded Provident Hospital, one of the first in*******al hospitals in America.
His leadership expanded access to care and helped reshape the future of medicine.

⭐ WEEK 1 — Pioneers Who Changed Medicine

👉🏽 The first Black woman physician in the United States earned her degree in 1864 — just one year after the Emancipation Proclamation.

Today we honor Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, a true pioneer in American medicine.
After the Civil War, she dedicated her career to caring for formerly enslaved individuals who had little to no access to healthcare.
She later authored one of the first medical books written by a Black physician.
Her legacy reminds us that medicine is more than diagnosis and treatment — it is advocacy, compassion, and service.
