I’ve been asked twice in the last week what trail shoes are the best for this trail. Truth is I don’t know. But maybe some of you guys who have trail experience could speak to that. I saw a lot of Hoka’s during the 2024 & 2025 races.

Colorado Silver Star ⭐️ did such an amazing job on our Champion buckle last year that we’ve decided to use them again for 2026. As of today the new buckle is in production. We’re down to about 31 weeks until somebody endures enough pain to win this buckle. Will it be you?

At 44 years old Ashley Paulson crushed the 100 mile world record in just 12 hours, 19 minutes, and 34 seconds, averaging 7:21 per mile across the full 100-mile distance. 99% of Americans would be hard pressed to run 1 mile at that pace. At just 33 weeks out from the Lion King Backyard Ultra we can look to folks like Ashley for inspiration. See you soon.

The Lion King Backyard Ultra is just 34 weeks out. Yesterday I was able to hit the trails for my first trail race in 2 years. Best of all I was able to run with Adam (a Lion King Vet) who led the way 99.9% of the race. My knees feel great. I switched to a vegan diet to lower inflammation & it appears to be working. I also saw that Jackson was there. I didn’t see you but congrats on 1st place in the 50 miler! What an adventure at Iron Heart! I’m excited to see how these guys and all of you will do in October. This year I’ll be loading on the miles with you. See you soon. 🏃

Squish is preparing to provide race security for the 3rd year in a row. She’s got her nutrition dialed in with whole milk and Doritos. Her VO2 max is rising every week with nearly 1,000 daily jumps on her indoor trampoline. Her sleep could use some work as she has no consistency between 2000-0600hrs. But with 35 weeks left until the race she’s got time to work out the bugs between now and race day.

There’s a neat trail race, Iron Heart Ultra, at Meremac Springs next weekend (Valentines Day Morning). They have all the options for distance (100 Mile • 100K • 50 Mile • 50K • 20 Mile • 15 Mile • 20K • 10 Mile • 15K • 10K • 5 Mile • 5K). My knees are just feeling good enough for the 5 mile distance so I signed up for that. I hope you’re all doing well & I can’t wait for a great race in October.
