Robert Benjamin Moore of Rolla, MO, passed away on February 10, 2026, at the age of 78.
Robert “Bob,” was born on June 1, 1947, to the late Robert Capps Moore and Phyllis Joyce (Robbins) Moore. Bob worked as a house painter in Rolla.
Bob met the late Linda Sue (Lane) Moore while they were attending Central Bible College in Springfield, MO, and fell in love. They married and had two children, Christy and Matthew. After Bob graduated from CBC, he and Linda devoted much of their life to ministry in campus outreach and children’s ministry at First Assembly of God in Rolla. They also did city outreach with their local church when they lived in Poughkeepsie, NY.
Bob was a curious, intelligent, life-long learner who was interested in science, theology, and cosmology. He took joy in building and inventing things, loved to travel, and had fun spending time with his seven grandkids. Bob enjoyed listening to and composing music as well as singing and playing the guitar and ukulele. Most importantly, Bob was a kind, gentle, thoughtful man who treated others in the way that he thought they would want to be treated. In this way, he made the world a better place just by being in it.
Bob will be deeply missed by his family: Bob’s daughter, Christy Lenzi, her husband, Alan Lenzi, and their children, Jules, Noah, and Joshua of Stockton, California; Bob’s son, Matthew Moore, his wife, Michele Moore, and their children, Morgan, Matthew, Mason, and Maelyn of Millerton, NY; Bob’s brothers, Dan Moore and his wife, Katherine Moore; Tim Moore and his wife, Ann Moore; Sam Moore and his wife, Margaret Moore; Bob’s sister, Melody “Dee” (Moore) Riley and her husband, Rex Riley; and Bob’s second wife, Merry-Ken (Piper) Moore.

Dr. Richard Davis Hagni, 94, passed away peacefully in his home in Rolla, Missouri, on February 10, 2026. He was born on April 29, 1931, in Howell, Michigan to Walter and Merle (Whittaker) Hagni, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife of almost 70 years, Rachael (Stutzman) Hagni, his daughter Sandra Ostergren, and his sisters Elizabeth Ayala and Marcia Henrikson.

Richard (Dick) dedicated his life to the study and teaching of Geology. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Michigan State University, and earned a PhD in Geology from the University of Missouri. He taught at Missouri University of Science & Technology for 44 years, and was awarded Curator’s Distinguished Professor of Geology in 1993, the highest research honor in the University of Missouri System. He retired in 2000 as Professor Emeritus after serving as Department Chair of Geology & Geophysics (1985-2000), and Gulf Oil Foundation Professor (1984-1993).

Through the years, Dick gave more than 395 presentations at geology, mining, and metallurgical technical conferences, chaired numerous scientific sessions, published 24 book chapters and books, published over 200 technical papers, and was editor of several technical meeting procedure volumes. Dick taught 17 different geology courses over the years, specializing in economic geology and ore microscopy.

Starting his career in the Zn-Pb deposits of the TriState Mining district in MO-KS-OK, he continued researching Pb-Zn deposits in the Viburnum Trend for many years, becoming an expert on the mineralogy and geology of those deposits.

Dick was one of five geologists in the US to be named an honorary life member of the International Association on the Genesis of Ore Deposits (IAGOD), the world’s top international professional organization on ore deposits. He taught short courses in applied mineralogy at S&T and in South Africa, Brazil, and Turkey. He gave technical lectures in Krakow, Poland, at the invitation of the Government of Poland (1984).

Perhaps Dick’s top accomplishment was that he set out early in his career to visit as many mines in the world as possible to collect ore specimens for teaching and research purposes. This ambitious project involved visits to more than 500 mines located in 30 countries, and it provided unique outstanding course and research materials.

Toward the end of his career, Dick focused research on fluorspar ore deposits in Okorusu Mine in Namibia, Africa, by conducting 10 field summer research trips. He continued researching and presenting technical papers at scholarly meetings for 20 years after retiring.

Dick was a star athlete in high school setting the single game basketball scoring school record, high jump school record, shot put school record, he participated in state finals in Michigan in high jump, shot put, high hurdles, and low hurdles. At Hope College, he played both football and basketball for two years before transferring to Michigan State. He continued to play basketball for many decades as an adult, and was an avid fan of RHS and Missouri S&T basketball.

He was married to his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Rachael, for 69-1/2 years. Rachael provided love and encouragement for him, and held down the fort at home so that he could pursue his career. They had 4 children together: John (Brenda) of South Carolina, Sandra (John) Ostergren of Texas, Ann of Rolla, and David (Diane) of Rolla; eight grandchildren: Heather, Bianca, Justin, Stuart, Natalie, Jonna, Victoria, Drew; and 12 great grandchildren. Summers were spent in industry across the U.S., with his children joining him for field work and Rachael making it home wherever his jobs took him.

A great husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and mentor… a great man, who will be missed here on earth but is in heaven with his beloved wife Rachael and daughter Sandra.

Visitation will be at Grace Church Rolla at 10-11 am on Monday, February 16, 2026, followed by funeral at 11-12. Burial will be on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, from 10-11 am at Rolla City Cemetery.

In honor of Dick’s love of basketball, contributions may be made to Grace Church Student Recreation Center.

Chuck owned and operated his own concrete and excavating business for most of his life. His strong work ethic was passed down, as his son later followed him into the concrete business.

An avid outdoorsman, Chuck loved hunting, especially elk hunting in Colorado with family and friends. Above all, however, he loved Jesus and his family. He was deeply involved in his church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and, at times, filling in to preach and teach the Word of God.

01/21/2026

Douglas J. Berlin passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026 in Columbia, MO.

Doug Berlin was born in New York City on April 28, 1946, the only child born to Arthur C. Berlin and Ruth (Connors) Berlin.

After graduating from the Fox Lane School in Bedford, NY, Doug attended Carroll College (now Carroll University) in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and the University of Cincinnati. He was employed as a city planner for the City of Columbus Ohio receiving a letter of commendation from the mayor for his authorship of the city’s flood plain development regulations. He moved to Rolla in 1971 and served as Assistant Director of the Meramec Regional Planning Commission for ten years.

On October 8, 1977, he married Dorothy Spencer at St. Patrick Church, and they shared nearly 38 years together until she passed away on June 2, 2015. In 1981 Doug & Dorothy purchased Star Sign Company and operated the sign company for 35 years until Doug retired in 2016.

For several years Doug was a member and Treasurer of the Central Missouri Regional Fair Board, now known as the Phelps County Fair Board. He was a member of the Rolla Knights of Columbus, serving two terms as Recorder. He was a member of the Optimist Club of Rolla serving as Club Photographer, President, and as District Lt Governor. He was a member of the Phelps County Genealogical Society serving as Vice President, Treasurer, and Recording Secretary.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy, Dorothy’s parents Elmer and Ellen Spencer, and sister in-law Marie Quesenberry of St. Charles, MO.

He is survived by daughter Amanda Berlin, son Aaron Berlin and spouse Susie Bales and their six children; sisters-in-law Martha Bowles and husband Bill of Salem, MO; Shirley June Dargatz and husband William of Huron SD; niece Carol Bowles of Columbia MO; and goddaughter Janet Huelsmann of Vancouver, WA.

While always looking serious, Doug will probably be remembered most for his wry sense of humor. He could find something amusing in almost everything, including this obituary. New acquaintances, unaccustomed to his sense of humor, frequently missed his puns and double entendres. He frequently turned the humor on himself. When told his sense of humor had a fast response, he demurred and indicated he felt he was only half-fast.

Doug will be laid to rest in a private family service with interment at the Rolla City Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held once the weather is warmer; although regrettably the pollen will be in evidence by all the teary eyes and sniffles, bring Kleenex.

Speaking of pollen, as Doug is allergic to nature’s dust, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Phelps County Genealogical Society, PO Box 571, Rolla, MO 65402.
