Attention patients, neighbors, friends and family!! We are very excited to welcome Dr. Wardrop to our practice!
Dr. Wardrop is a career clinician and educator and the new Chief Medical Officer and Clinical Physician at Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) Healthcare where he is also a Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics.
Previously, Dr. Wardrop was Program Director of the Internal Medicine Program and Vice Chair of Academic Medicine at Cleveland Clinic. He also led the top-rated Combined Med-Peds Residency at the University of North Carolina, was founding faculty at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and founding Associate Dean for Biomedical Affairs at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Wardrop attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, graduating in 1994 summa cm laude, in honors, in Biology before graduating from the Ohio State University with a PhD in molecular virology and immunology in 2000 and his Medical Degree cm laude in 2002. He completed combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency and served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Throughout his career, he has practiced both as an Internal Medicine specialist and Pediatrician. As a physician he strongly promotes health care equity, patient health-care literacy, and most importantly high-value patient-centered care for all patients. As a physician and as a scientist this includes practicing at the top of his license and certifications, practicing evidence-based and scientifically sound care, at the standard of care. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and American Board of Pediatrics respectively.
Dr. Wardrop has been recognized as a top physician in his field and was recognized by the American College of Physicians (ACP) as one of America's top 10 hospitalists in 2018 and awarded Mastership in the ACP in 2024, the Collegeโs highest Honor.
Dr. Wardrop has extensive leadership experience in national organizations including the ABIM, where he has served on the Internal Medicine board for 5 years and will serve Chair of the IM Board through 2030. He is also a member of the ABIM Council. Additionally, he has held several national leadership positions within ACP, the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). He has served as Chair of the Council of Early Career Physicians and as a member of the ACP Board of Regents. Within AAIM, he has served on the AAIM Education Committee and the AAIM Graduate Medical Education Funding Task Force, and chaired the AAIM Faculty Development Committee. Within AAP, Dr. Wardrop was a member of the Section of Medicine and Pediatrics Executive Council from 2015 to 2018.
Originally from Pittsburgh PA, Dr. Wardrop and his entire family (including his dog Crosby) are avid Yinzers when it comes to sports allegiance, cheering heartily for the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates. Other hobbies and interests include chess, road cycling, and the great outdoors in all its splendor.
