🩹 Wound Care Wednesday
Spring in Your Step Starts with Sensation
Pressure on the heel.
Friction under the toes.
A red spot that feels sore.
Most people feel that.
But what if you don’t?
Neuropathy and circulation issues can reduce sensation in the feet. That means redness, pressure, or skin breakdown can start quietly without pain.
And pain is usually what gets our attention.
Before spring activity increases:
✔ Check the bottoms of your feet
✔ Look between the toes
✔ Watch for redness that doesn’t fade
A true “spring in your step” starts with healthy skin and good awareness.
If you’re unsure what you’re seeing, it’s worth getting checked.

🦶 Toenail Tuesday
Spring in Your Step Starts at the Toes
Not every thick nail is fungus.
Winter boot pressure, repeated micro trauma, and changes in how you walk can all affect the way a nail grows.
If one nail looks different than the others…
If it’s thicker, darker, or lifting…
It’s worth looking closer.
The right diagnosis matters.
Treating the wrong thing wastes time and lets the real issue continue.
If something has changed since winter, don’t guess.

🦶 Move It Monday
Winter doesn’t just make your feet cold.
It makes them stiff.
Boots limit ankle motion.
Less walking reduces flexibility.
Tight ankles increase strain on your heel and arch.
Try this simple test:
Stand facing a wall.
Keep your heel down.
Bend your knee forward toward the wall.
If your heel lifts or your knee can’t reach, your ankle mobility is limited.
Limited ankle motion is one of the most overlooked causes of:
• Heel pain
• Achilles tightness
• Plantar fasciitis
• Early morning stiffness
If this feels tight, it’s worth checking before spring activity ramps up.

❄️ Foot Fact Friday
Chilblains vs. Frostbite They Are Not the Same
Cold weather can cause red, painful toes.
But not every winter flare is frostbite.
Here’s the difference:
🔴 Chilblains (Pernio)
• Red or purple patches
• Itchy or burning
• Develop hours after cold exposure
• Caused by an abnormal blood vessel reaction
⚪ Frostbite
• Pale, white, or gray skin
• Numbness or loss of sensation
• Skin may feel firm or waxy
• Caused by prolonged freezing exposure
Chilblains are inflammatory.
Frostbite is freezing injury.
Both need attention especially if skin begins to blister, crack, or stop healing.
If your winter toes flare every year, it’s worth being evaluated.

🧦🧴 Therapy Thursday
“Winter Foot Protection Plan”
Cold weather stresses circulation.
Dry air weakens your skin barrier.
That combination is why chilblains flare.
Here’s what we recommend in office for winter protection:
✔ Daily calf raises to support circulation
✔ Non restrictive, moisture wicking socks
✔ A fast absorbing, physician-dispensed moisturizer
✔ Gradual warming never direct heat
Not all moisturizers are the same.
Not all socks are protective.
Our Winter Protection Duo:
🧴 Joba Silk Moisturizing Cream
Ultra lite, non greasy, and fast absorbing.
Designed to support the skin barrier without trapping moisture ideal for irritated winter skin.
🧦 JOBST SensiFoot
Non binding comfort with moisture control.
Helps protect sensitive feet without restricting circulation.
Healthy circulation + protected skin = fewer winter flare ups.
If your toes flare every winter, a simple winter plan can make a difference.
Stop guessing. Start protecting.

🩹 Wound Care Wednesday
Winter irritation is not just cosmetic.
Cold exposure can trigger inflamed, itchy toes.
Scratching + dry skin = cracking.
Cracked skin becomes an entry point for bacteria.
What starts as red, irritated winter skin can quickly turn into an open wound especially in patients with:
• Diabetes
• Neuropathy
• Poor circulation
If you notice:
✔ Blistering
✔ Drainage
✔ Increasing redness
✔ Pain that isn’t improving
✔ Skin that isn’t healing
Don’t wait.
Healthy skin protects.
Broken skin needs evaluation.
If your winter flare ups are progressing instead of improving, let’s take a look.

🧴 Try It Tuesday
Winter doesn’t just make your feet cold.
It weakens your skin barrier.
Cold air + dry indoor heat = irritated, inflamed, fragile skin.
If you’re dealing with:
• Red winter toes
• Itching after warming up
• Tight, dry skin
• Early chilblain flare-ups
Your moisturizer matters.
Joba Silk Moisturizing Cream is:
• Ultra-lite
• Non-greasy
• Fast-absorbing
• Physician-dispensed
It hydrates without trapping excessive moisture helping protect compromised winter skin.
When the skin barrier stays healthy, you reduce the risk of cracking, irritation, and secondary infection.

🦶 Make It Move Monday
Cold weather slows circulation.
When blood flow decreases, your feet feel colder and conditions like chilblains can flare.
One of the simplest ways to support circulation?
Calf raises.
Your calf muscle acts as a pump.
Every time you rise onto your toes, it helps move blood back up your legs and improves flow to your feet.
How to do it:
• Stand near a counter or chair for balance
• Slowly rise onto your toes
• Hold for 2 seconds
• Lower down with control
• Repeat 10–15 times
• Do 2–3 sets daily
Simple movement. Real impact.
If your toes turn red, itchy, or painfully cold during winter, it may be more than “just cold feet.” We can help.

🇺🇸 Happy Presidents Day from The Footing Fathers! 👣
Four score and seven blisters ago… someone should have invented better arch support.
If your heels are staging a rebellion every morning, it might be time for a new plan. These founding feet approve of supportive shoes, stretching, and seeing your podiatrist before small aches turn into big problems.
Freedom feels better when your feet don’t hurt.

🔥 Freak Fact Friday
NO PAIN ≠ NO PROBLEM.
Neuropathy doesn’t always cause pain.
In fact, early nerve damage can be completely painless.
That means:
• You may not feel pressure building in your shoes
• You may not notice small cracks or blisters
• You may not react when something is wrong
If you can’t feel it… you can’t protect it.
Winter dryness, tight boots, and reduced sensation can quietly create bigger problems.
If your feet feel:
✔ Numb
✔ Colder than the rest of your body
✔ Less sensitive than they used to
That’s worth checking.
Early detection prevents complications.
