Tokata Etuŋwaŋ Wakaŋyeža Owičakiyapi was honored to provide the first session of a three-part parent and caregiver series for St. Francis Indian School, presented by Charisse Bordeaux, MS, LPC, NCC, QMHP.

The session, “Sacred Little Ones: A Lakota Approach to Social-Emotional Development,” introduced families to the foundations of social-emotional learning and connected these concepts to Lakota teachings about wakanyeja as sacred beings. Families explored how children grow through connection, safety, and belonging; how trauma and stress influence behavior; and how co-regulation supports emotional development. Practical, culturally grounded strategies were shared to help caregivers strengthen resilience, healing, and well-being within the home.

Two additional sessions will continue this series, focusing on trauma-informed Lakota caregiving, relationship building, and everyday practices that support the emotional and behavioral health of children across all ages.

Wopila tanka to St. Francis Indian School for inviting this partnership and for their ongoing commitment to supporting their students, families, and community.

Good afternoon, relatives!

Wiconi Wakan Health and Healing Center - Native Connections of Rosebud will be sharing some photos from some of our previous activities or events we done earlier this year.

Photos that I’m sharing now are from back in June when we did our first outdoors youth camp. We did hand games, hiking, walking, fishing, and traditional arts with the youth and parents who attended. We got to enjoy the nature on one of the trails we hiked on. Sooo many beautiful plants during the summer time.

We are hoping we get to do more youth outdoors with the youth and their parents this coming spring and summer.

Anpetu waste relatives,

we would like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to every single one of our young relatives that made it to our 2 day Open gym event at Toddy County Middle School.

We also wanted to send a huge shoutout to the TCMS principal for allowing us to use the gym, Substance Abuse Recovery Initiative Staff for assisting, Native Connections of Rosebud/WiconiWakan Staff for facilitating the process! Everyone went above and beyond to make this event safe, fun & possible!

Again, this was a success because of the young relatives that showed up! Over 2 days they had a place to decompress & move around during the cold weekend! Snacks, drinks, a light lunch was offered, everyone also got a goodie bag as a thank you for showing up! It is our hope to collaborate with more programs to make these events happen more often!

if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Wiconi Wakan Health and Healing Center at (605) 747 2777 ext. 232.
