HAPPY MOTHERS. For the day after Mother’s Day, when there was no breakfast in bed and there’s still dishes in the sink and you may not be out and about doing your favorite things. The cards have been given. But those little hands are still yours to hold. The babe at your breast still looks to you. It’s back to a normal week, but there’s still something extraordinary about you in the normal everyday life. You fill life up with beauty. With grace. With kindness. With laughter and tickles and bed time kisses. Mothers make a home secure and an oasis for all who reside in it. You’ve grown and stretched and when you thought you couldn’t any more, you usually do. You answer the call of resilience, of humility, of strength, of diligence. And most days you do it without thanks. Possibly just a pat, a glance, a cuddle. So for all the days between that second week of May, you are valuable, integral, a role that is sacred and perfect. I would say, that most the world needs more mothers like you. Happy mothers and days of mothering in between.

THIRD TRIMESTER~ your belly is getting bigger, your hips are loose, that babe is making their way into the pelvis…want to know what was/is on my simple checklist of daily activities as a midwife?
[ ] Walk
[ ] Tea - think NORA tea- I steep mine overnight and have a whole quart to portion out for a few days.
[ ] probiotic- in foods like plain yogurt or sauerkraut or a capsule (particularly that contains strains of reuteri and rhamnosis if wanting to fend of GBS)
[ ] stretch / squat - think deep squat, not 300 of them! And make sure to open up and relax all those muscles that have been taxed!
[ ]Around 36 weeks you could add in eating a couple of dates each day- paired with protein.

And then I just had my ongoing list of supplements/additional things to remember: Prenatals, magnesium, ground flax - helps me with constipation, protein.

Even I don’t always get this right everyday, but it was helpful to me to have a visual and try to check it off each day. At least I feel good about myself when I manage to complete it! 🙃 Hang in there, mama! It’s the home stretch!

“I was always afraid of home birth, it wasn’t something my family or my husbands family did, but I really wanted a water birth with my second pregnancy, and the hospitals in my area didn’t offer that. After a lot of research and prayer my husband and I were led to have a home birth. Hannah Nibbler and Hannah Quilla made us feel very comfortable in our decision. I felt the in home visits were more personal and more convenient since I already have a son.
On march 18th, one week after my due date, I gave birth to a 8lbs12oz boy at home! I got to experience the peaceful in home water birth I wanted. I enjoyed my home birth more than I could imagine! And I look forward to having my next baby at home as well.”

We’ve been a little more quiet on here these days. Busy birth months (4 babies before Christmas), followed by the holidays, followed by a few days off call…but we were able to fit some skills and drills in to refresh ourselves on necessary topics and keep integrating and teaching our student and assistant! The slower pace has been nice before some spring babies.

Licensed midwives carry a variety of items we believe to beneficial and necessary if an emergency does come up. We keep ourselves up to date on neonatal resuscitation, various maneuvers in birth, and carry equipment to help if the need arises. Including resuscitation and anti hemorrhagic drugs to name a couple.

Always appreciate how much Hope gives to our community!

Just before Thanksgiving we had the pleasure of helping a friends baby into the world, but in addition, we also were there as this little guy made his appearance, being the ✨SEVENTH ✨nephew or niece that Hannah has had a hand in helping out. What a joy.

•This picture is a perfect teaching moment as well, though. We can’t forego the opportunity to mention newborn molding of the head. You’ll notice since this picture was fresh after birth that you can still see the overlapping of baby’s skull bones. It’s an attestament to how much both you and baby work together in this process. Their little noggins have to literally change shape often times as they come through the birth canal, later fusing together as they get older. When sometimes it feels like nothing is happening during labor, don’t worry mama, there’s lots going on under the surface. You’ll hold your little guy soon, too!

Ladies and gentlemen, our latest Heartstrings baby! His mama calls him a “unicorn baby, too good to be true”. And we’re here to agree! Little Joel is taking his eating and sleeping very seriously these days, and is 10 ounces over his birth weight at 10 days! We’re thankful to mothers who are surprised by the difference of home birth and babies who take it upon themselves to surprise the rest of us! Keep up the good work! ✨
