5 Strategies to manage anxiety:

Relaxation techniques: There are many different relaxation techniques that can help to reduce anxiety, such as deep breathing, meditation, and yoga. These techniques can help to calm the body and mind, and can be practiced anywhere, at any time.

Exercise: Exercise is a great way to reduce stress and anxiety. It releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting effects. Even a short walk or some light stretching can make a difference.

Healthy lifestyle: Eating a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, and avoiding caffeine and alcohol can all help to reduce anxiety. When you take care of your physical health, you're also taking care of your mental health.

Social support: Spending time with loved ones can help to reduce anxiety. Talking to someone you trust about your feelings can help you feel less alone and more supported.

Professional help: If you're struggling to manage your anxiety on your own, it's important to seek professional help. A therapist can teach you coping skills and help you to develop a treatment plan that's right for you.

Here are some additional tips that may help you to deal with anxiety:

Identify your triggers: What are the things that seem to trigger your anxiety? Once you know your triggers, you can start developing strategies for avoiding or coping with them.

Challenge your thoughts: When you're feeling anxious, your thoughts may become distorted. Challenge these thoughts by asking yourself if they're really true.

Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness is the practice of paying attention to the present moment without judgment. This can help you to become more aware of your thoughts and feelings and to learn to accept them without reacting to them.

Be patient: It takes time and effort to learn how to manage anxiety. Don't get discouraged if you don't see results immediately. Just keep practicing the techniques that work for you, and eventually, you'll find that you're better able to cope with anxiety.

Some leaders and some parents think they have more influence when they exert control, however, the harsh reality is their influence goes down.

On the bright side of things, it's fun to see when leaders and parents we've worked with understand the diverging relationship between control/authoritarian behaviors and their influence. There is something to be said about the joy that comes with being a parent or a leader with high influence on those you want to engage with and make a difference with.

Practice gratitude. Taking the time to appreciate the good things in your life can help to improve your mood and reduce stress. Make a list of things you're grateful for, or keep a gratitude journal.

When you're feeling down, it can be easy to focus on the negative. However, taking the time to appreciate the good things can help to shift your perspective and improve your mood.

Gratitude has been shown to have a number of benefits for mental health, including:

Reducing stress and anxiety

Improving mood

Increasing happiness

Boosting self-esteem

Strengthening relationships

Promoting overall well-being

If you're looking for a way to improve your mental health, practicing gratitude is a great place to start.

From someone, we highly respect: "For parents there is a healthy sweet spot in between permissive and authoritarian extremes, and as a father of three adopted children I know first-hand how difficult it can be to stay in that zone. How do we do that specifically? It turns out that there are helpful clues in what we have learned from our 40 years of research developing the method of motivational interviewing. Thanks to the authors of The Listening Space this knowledge is now available in the first book on motivational parenting. It’s very readable, practical, and science-based guidance on listening well to our children."
- William R. Miller, Ph.D. The University of New Mexico
