Thank you CCD Business!
on Summer Fry - Movement Artist & Mindfulness Coach located in Douglas County! Summer Fry Movement Artist and Healing Coach is a 100% women-owned sole proprietor offering dance instruction since 2017. Summer’s dance studio provides in-person classes in group settings and one-on-one instruction.
The studio offers weekly classes in fitness and dance modalities, such as yoga, Zumba, and various forms of dance, utilizing five contracted instructors. Dance instruction is provided for adults and children with two options: performance and non-performance classes. The performance classes culminate in three large productions a year supported and enjoyed by the local community. Non-performance classes are offered regularly, using a punch card payment system. Summer also provides women’s circles, workshops, and retreats several times yearly.
Initially, this client requested technical assistance in becoming a non-profit. CCD offered technical assistance to help her understand the non-profit application process. She ultimately decided to continue her for-profit business after consulting with technical assistance.
All technical assistance clients are alerted and informed of opportunities via our Constant Contact and social media shares. Summer learned of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Oregon Community Arts Grant applications opening. She had questions about eligibility and requested in-person help to complete her financial documentation and narrative for the grant application. Her technical assistance resulted in a June 2022 grant award of $10,000 and $800, respectively. COVID hit Summer’s business income very hard in 2020 and 2021, and these grant funds will allow her to pay necessary operating expenses.
