February is National CTE Awareness Month šŸ§ šŸ’™

Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) and other traumatic brain injuries (TBI) can affect memory, mood, behavior, and daily functioning—impacting not only individuals, but their families as well.

Home care plays an important role in supporting those living with TBI by providing consistency, safety, and personalized care in a familiar environment.

Caregivers from CareBuilders at Home help TBI patients by:
• Assisting with daily routines and personal care
• Offering companionship and emotional support
• Supporting cognitive engagement and structure
• Helping with meals, transportation, and light housekeeping
• Promoting safety and independence at home

During National CTE Awareness Month, we recognize the importance of compassionate, individualized care—and the impact it can have on quality of life.

Because awareness leads to understanding, and understanding leads to better care.

Memory changes can be confusing—what's normal and what's a sign for concern? šŸ¤”
Normal: Forgetting where you put your keys
Not normal: Forgetting what keys are for
Normal: Occasionally forgetting a word
Not normal: Struggling to follow a conversation
If anything feels off, trust your instincts. Talk to your doctor. Early awareness can make a difference. CareBuilders at Home - West Essex https://www.carebuildersathome.com/essex/

Offering assistance should feel natural and non-intrusive. Instead of asking, "Do you need help?", try saying, "I'm going to the store Thursday. What can I pick up for you?"šŸ¤ The difference? One invites a yes or no, while the other assumes support and offers a helping hand. People often accept help that's already offered, making their day easier. At CareBuilders at Home - West Essex, we believe in proactive support and community. How do you prefer to receive help? 😊

The Caregiver's Calendar Trick
Keep a simple note in your phone with dates and observations:

"Jan 8 - Dad seemed confused about his doctor's name."
"Jan 12 - Mom had lost 3 lbs since Christmas."

Not for drama. For patterns.
When you talk to doctors or family, "He's been more tired lately" becomes "I've noticed increased fatigue on Jan 3, 8, and 14."
Specifics open doors to better care.

December can stir up emotions for seniors. Memories, loss, and change often feel closer this time of year.

Care tip
Listen more than you fix.

Sometimes the best support is simply sitting together and letting them talk.

Presence matters.

Shorter days can affect mood

December brings early sunsets and long evenings. Many seniors feel the change.
Open blinds during the day.
Use soft, bright lighting in the evenings.
Add simple daily routines like a short walk or a cozy activity after sunset.
Consistency helps boost mood and reduce winter loneliness.

December always looks calm on the calendar, but somehow becomes the busiest month of the year.
If you are caring for a loved one, give yourself permission to slow down for a minute.
Sip something warm.
Sit by the tree.
Take a breath.
Rest is part of the season too.
CareBuilders at Home is here to support you and your family through every holiday moment.

A Thanksgiving Thought:

Gratitude isn’t just something we feel — it’s something we practice.

Research shows that expressing gratitude can lower stress, improve sleep, and even strengthen our immune system.
But for older adults and caregivers, it can do something even more powerful: it helps the brain release dopamine and serotonin — the ā€œfeel-goodā€ chemicals that support emotional balance.

So today, in between the meals and memories, take a quiet moment to name three things you’re thankful for.
Say them out loud.
Write them down.
Share them with someone you love.

Gratitude changes the brain.
And when practiced daily, it can change the way we experience care, aging, and connection.

šŸ’™ From all of us at CareBuilders at Home — thank you for being part of our community.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Sometimes the best part of the pie isn’t the crust. It’s the company. 🄧
As the holidays approach, baking together can be a simple and joyful way to connect with the seniors you love. The smells, textures, and memories that come alive in the kitchen can spark conversation and lift spirits.
Try this easy No Fail Mug Apple Crisp:
šŸŽ 1 apple (peeled and chopped)
šŸŽ 1 tablespoon brown sugar
šŸŽ 1 tablespoon oats
šŸŽ A sprinkle of cinnamon and a dab of butter
Mix everything in a microwave safe mug and cook for about 2 minutes. Top with whipped cream or ice cream and enjoy warm.
✨ Caregiver Tip: Keep the focus on fun, not perfection. Let your loved one help stir, smell spices, and decorate. It’s about connection, not cleanup.
Sometimes a little time in the kitchen fills more than plates. It fills hearts. ā¤ļø

As the holidays get closer, it’s easy to focus on what needs to get done — meals, appointments, decorations.
But sometimes the best care you can give is simply taking time to listen.

Ask the person you care for about a favorite family tradition.
Maybe it’s a recipe that only they know by heart, or a story about a long-ago Thanksgiving.
Bring it back this year — together.

You’ll do more than spark a memory.
You’ll remind them that their life, history, and traditions still matter deeply.

šŸ’™ Small moments of connection are powerful medicine.

Did you know?

CareBuilders at Home has been helping families across the country care for loved ones for more than 35 years.

We were one of the first home care companies to offer both personal care and support for families — because caring for someone is never just about the tasks. It is about trust, connection, and giving families peace of mind.

From helping a client make their favorite breakfast to sitting and sharing stories from the past, our caregivers make independence possible every single day.

It is care that feels like family.

Honoring Those Who Served

Today we pause to honor the men and women who have served our country with courage and dedication.

Many of the clients and caregivers we work with are veterans, and their stories remind us what true service looks like — quiet strength, steady compassion, and commitment to something bigger than ourselves.

To every veteran and every military family, thank you for your sacrifice and your service.
We are proud to care for those who once cared for us all.

šŸ’™

We asked our CareBuilders caregivers and franchise owners one question: Why do you do what you do?

The answers weren’t about business. They were about people. About kindness, connection, and making every day a little brighter for someone who needs it.

This video is for the caregivers who go above and beyond, the families who trust us, and the seniors who remind us what really matters. šŸ’™
