💜💙🧡

There are days when I need you more than you need me, my child.

There are days when I am so tired, so desperate and disappointed in everything that I just want to lie next to you and close my eyes while you cling to my palms with your tiny fingers.

There are days when your hug warms my heart so much that it gives me new strength, even though I thought it wouldn’t be possible.

You are undoubtedly the one who knows me best, the one who for nine months listened to the beat of my heart that I loved without even seeing you, the one that I wanted more than anything else, the one that made me made the happiest person in the world.

My child, thank you for being here with me, for you can lie beside me and sleep peacefully and forgive me the days when I am not the mother I promised myself I would be.

I'm fortunate to have never suffered this kind of devastating loss. But I know too many who have. Held hands, hugged, cried, and mourned with the parents left to grieve. It's the worst part of my job, but one I will graciously accept.

Birth work isn't all about bringing life into the world. Sometimes it's about helping those who need space held for them, grace and light given to them, and who need reminding that there is no fault, no blame. Some souls were meant to fly free of their earthly bodies before we are blessed with their physical presence.

To those who have lost, I SEE YOU, and I admire your resilience. You are loved, and so are your angel babes ❤️❤️❤️

"On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it," she said.

Yep! It’s World Breastfeeding Week! At Enlightened Mama, we have three goals to help you THRIVE in your journey of breastfeeding… 1. Feed your baby. 2. Feel sane. 3. Enjoy your baby. Sometimes, in order to meet these goals, a family needs to discontinue breastfeeding, either partially or complet...

Thank you World Health Organization (WHO) for honoring 2020 by celebrating and ! I first became a nurse and midwife because of the work I observed in Honduras and Malawi. What an important time for and to join together on the global stage. These incredible professionals work both independently and collaboratively on behalf of the womxn and families we are honored to serve to combat maternal / parental and infant morbidity and mortality worldwide. So often, midwifery in particular is heralded as a profession that seeks to empower people in their birthing experiences: that is true AND what is also true is that nurses and midwives are seeking to change how our professions our viewed and represented in terms of visibility for ourselves as diverse workforces and holistically in terms of the work we do. In the US, racism and bias in healthcare have life-altering consequences for communities of color. On this first day of worldwide recognition for both of my professions, nursing AND midwifery, I encourage you to follow midwives of color in the US and around the world in our collective effort to improve representation of who WE, nurses and midwives, represent for ourselves and our patients / clients / families. See tags on IG for my friends and colleagues in this movement. Happy 2020 to us all 🌎👩🏿‍⚕️👩🏾‍⚕️🌍👩🏽‍⚕️👩🏼‍⚕️👩🏻‍⚕️🌏
