We are so thankful for some new adaptive supplies we recently purchased to help keep Onward an inclusive environment for all of our abilities! π₯³ We were able to purchase these using the donation we received from the 5th annual Julie Riese Golf Outing/Memorial Scholarship fund honoring Julie, a late special education teacher who gained her wings after a courageous 11-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. π©·
To some, this may not look like alot but I just want to share how awesome some of these tools are for our friends -
π½ Suction Cup Scooper Plates/Bowls: These are great for participants who 1) have limited eye sight with the bright color contrast, 2) are unable to use both hands functionally to stabilize plate and scoop, the suction on the bottom does it for you, 3) those who can't stab food great due to limited dexterity, muscle strength, coordination, and/or range of motion so they can scoop bites. Overall can limit frustration and messes which increases independence and dignity!
π΄ Built-Up Utensils: These provide a more comfortable grip, reducing the amount of finger dexterity needed and great for those who have limited range of motion and strength. The textured, non-slip handles are easier to hold for those with weak or small grips, too!
π¨βπ³ Stand-Up Kitchen Mixer: This will help eliminate the strength, grip, power, and mobility that is required with a standard mixer allowing ease and a higher tolerance for cooking!
π² All-Turn-It Spinner: Participants who have a hard time shaking dice/using fine motor, dexterity skills would benefit from this... but it's also fun/exciting for those with can use dice, too! You push/hold the red button on the front and it spins the arrow for you. The outside/larger ring can be removed and you can make your own ring to correlate with other things - other games, activity choices, movement activities, really anything!
π€ Eazy-Grip Handles: We have 14 different colored/sizes of adaptive cuffs that you can place around a participants hand who has limited grip/dexterity, coordination, and/or strength to help hold items such as weights, kitchen utensils, coloring utensils, instruments, pool noodles, glue sticks, etc.
