πŸŽ€ The Purpose

Red Ribbon Week promotes living a drug-free, healthy, and positive lifestyle.
It encourages young people β€” and the adults who support them β€” to make safe choices and to stand up against drug misuse, bullying, and violence.

🧩 How It Started

The campaign began in 1985 after the death of DEA agent Enrique β€œKiki” Camarena, who was killed in the line of duty while fighting against drug trafficking.

In his honor, communities started wearing red ribbons as a symbol of commitment to a drug-free life, which grew into a nationwide movement supported by schools, organizations, and families.

🌟 October is Substance Use Prevention Month 🌟

At CARE of Southeastern Michigan, we believe prevention starts with connection. πŸ’™
This month, we’re shining a light on the power of strong families, open conversations, and healthy choices that help youth and adults thrive.

Together, we can create a community where prevention is possible, recovery is celebrated, and no one has to face substance use alone.

✨ Join us in spreading awareness:

Talk with your kids about substance use early and often

Learn the signs and how to help

Share prevention resources with friends and neighbors

When we come together as a community, we build a stronger, healthier future β€” one choice, one conversation, one family at a time. πŸ’¬πŸ’ͺ
