I don’t post much about my years of cycling but earlier this week I was telling someone about announcing a stage finish atop Mont Ventoux. I was lucky enough to have an epic trip to le Tour for the first time in 2004 when I got to climb Ventoux. I was sort of sad to think it’s taken this long for more women to be able to do these iconic events in racing; in some ways it feels like we’ve come pretty far…& in others, it feels like it’s taking too long for more female athlete progress to steadily continue. But for today, I’ll be excited to hear this is happening in 2026. And I’ll be forever grateful to have & , , & all the others who helped me get into road cycling so many years ago… They pushed me when I bonked or got dropped in the wind 🙄, taught me how to eat on the bike (that wasn’t something we did while in the pool in my prior sport of swimming 😭) & encouraged me, handed-down gear & fixed my mechanicals until eventually I was the one being chased uphill & winning stages. (But I was probably never fast enough to change my own flat without much appreciated help on a group ride from others with stronger hands than mine 😆 🫣…) Excited for for female athletes & happy to have gotten to do epic things like this in the past. 🇫🇷 ⛰️ 🚴 📷:
