Why do I model fart noises in session? 💨😅

Because for my GLP (Gestalt Language Processing) clients, all sounds are communication (even the silly or stinky ones!) Bodily noises are often funny, motivating, and familiar, which makes them the perfect opportunity to model meaningful language and social interaction.

When my client sneezed during this session, it turned into a natural moment to:
🗣️ Model a sneezing sound
🐸 Teach covering your mouth
💬 Practice saying “bless you!”
😁 And keep communication fun and functional!

Here are some tips to bring MAGIC to your speech therapy session. 🪄

1. Have them choose their activity! This promotes child-led and play-based activities that bring more opportunities for natural language.

2. Incorporate literacy activities! This allows for labeling, answering questions and pre-literacy skills. Research shows that AAC does support literacy. It provides shared reading opportunities, decoding, letter recognition and identification in text. Give them the opportunity to read/comprehend.

3. PLAY! Add in their favorite pretend play toys. This allows for increased turn-taking, joint attention, requesting and common interest. It shows your care about what they enjoy.
