Auto accidents can be scary. We can help most patients who have been hurt in auto accidents!
Here is a list of the most common auto accident injuries, ranging from minor to life-threatening:
· Whiplash (Neck Strain): The most frequent injury, caused by the head jerking back and forth. Symptoms like stiffness and pain may take 24-48 hours to appear.
· Soft Tissue Injuries: Sprains, strains, and contusions (bruises) to muscles and ligaments, often in the lower back or shoulders.
· Head Injuries: Including concussions (even without a loss of consciousness) and traumatic brain injuries (TBIs).
· Back Injuries: Herniated discs, spinal fractures, or severe nerve damage like chronic sciatica.
· Chest Injuries: Bruised ribs, fractures, or internal organ damage (often from striking the steering wheel or seatbelt).
· Fractures and Dislocations: Especially in wrists, arms, ankles, and legs.
· Facial Injuries: Cuts from broken glass or airbag burns/abrasions.
· Psychological Trauma: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, or phobias about driving.
Important note: Adrenaline can mask pain right after an accident. Even if you feel fine, see a doctor promptly—symptoms from injuries like concussions or internal bleeding can appear days later.
