The gym industry has lied to you.... An 8-pack of abs does not mean optimal health. The 2 are independent of one another. What you look like on the outside can be very different of what is happening on the inside - especially if you are engaging in consistent, high intensity for hours everyday.

Balance, consistency, and listening to your body. Sedentary is bad. Overtraining is just as bad.

There was a time when heart disease felt distant, something that came with age. That assumption no longer holds. Across cities and smaller towns, cases of heart attacks and cardiac issues among people in their 20s, 30s, and early 40s are quietly increasing. Many of these individuals look fit, exerci...

For most individuals, consistent exercise is necessary to have long term success treating mental health issues. This does not mean other modalities or drugs are not needed as well. It means it is a necessary component that should not be overlooked.

A new Loughborough University study has urged psychiatrists and mental health professionals to formally integrate physical activity into routine care for people living with severe mental illness.

Every day, we’re exposed to different forms of stress. And while weight gain can be a source of stress, what most people don’t realize is that stress itself can drive weight gain — not just through overeating.

Chronic and acute stress impact your body on a hormonal level. Elevated cortisol, one of your primary stress hormones, can slow metabolism and make it easier to store fat. Over time, this creates a cycle that’s hard to break.

One of the most effective ways to interrupt that cycle is through physical activity.

Exercise helps regulate stress by increasing endorphins and serotonin — chemicals that improve mood, clear your mind, and reduce the urge to reach for “comfort foods.” It also supports more stable hormone levels, making your body more resilient to the physical effects of stress.

Beyond the physiology, movement gives you a mental reset. Whether it’s stepping outside for a walk or joining a group class, changing your environment can help shift your mindset, reduce overwhelm, and bring you back to center.

Stress isn’t going away — but how your body responds to it can change.

Learn why our survival instincts send us in search of fat and sugar — and how to resist the pull in stressful moments.

Yes, it's true. Physicians have prescribed exercise as a means to obtain health for centuries. Physical activity is one of the safest, cheapest medicines available and will increase longevity and quality of life as an added bonus. Now, we need to get the majority of modern physicians to feel the same way!

Individualized Lifestyle Medicine should always be the FIRST choice to fight menopausal symptoms. It's safe, Inexpensive, and extremely effective for the majority of issues women have - beginning with perimenopause.

Aerobic exercise, particularly static exercises like yoga and stretching, performed 70 to 90 minutes three times a week over eight to 10 weeks, can significantly improve sleep disorders in menopausal women.

Most individuals benefit from consistent moderate to vigorous exercise. Health improves, quality of life increases and overall you feel better as you increase activity.

Unfortunately, there are a few instances where physical activity can do more harm than good - if care is not taken.

Individuals suffering from Chronic Fatigue (ME/CFS) and Fibromyalgia (FMS) are prone to have setbacks in their disease management if they push their bodies too hard - and that can be from as little as doing too many chores around the house. It’s extremely important for those individuals to have a specific plan created by their doctor and exercise physiologist to find their exact daily activity threshold.

Clinical Exercise Physiologists are specifically trained to deal with many types of diseases and are able to track activity levels to a precise amount. For individuals suffering with FMS or ME/CFS, finding a qualified professional may help manage the disease more efficiently and be able to manage daily life better. Instead of creating an exercise routine, in this case, an exercise physiologist would help find an activity threshold.

Learn about post-exertional malaise, a key symptom of chronic fatigue syndrome, including what it is and why some don't believe it exists.
