Parents and caregivers, be aware that there is a recall of ByHeart organic infant formula. The formula has been linked to several cases of infant botulism crossing states across the US, including a possible case on Long Island.
Infant botulism is a rare but serious illness that can happen when a baby ingests toxins from a bacteria called Clostridium botulinum. This bacteria can also be found in honey, which is why it is recommended to never give honey or products containing honey to a baby under 1 year of age. Babies and children over the age of 1 are not susceptible to this bacteria, as their bodies are further developed and they are able to digest the toxins before they cause any harm.
Symptoms of infant botulism include weakness (their bodies are described as “floppy”), constipation, trouble breathing, excessive drooling, and difficulty swallowing.
‼️If you use this formula, discontinue use and discard it immediately. Seek further instruction by calling your pediatrician or health department, visiting the ByHeart website, or going to FDA.gov/recalls
